Office Location: 1801 W. Warner, Suite 202, Chicago IL; required in-office minimum of 3 days per week (hybrid work policy subject to change)

Who We Are Looking For:
The Director of Finance (DoF) contributes to NAMI Chicago’s overall mission by leading and supporting seamless fiscal management systems, procedures, and processes. The DoF has primary responsibility for overseeing all budget and fiscal functions, policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have solid process and fiscal management skills, knowledge of non-profit and fund accounting. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with specific expertise in fiscal management and fund accounting, nonprofit management and governance. They will play a critical role in partnering with the executive leadership team in strategic decision-making. In addition, they will have excellent written and communications skills, and a keen interest in NAMI Chicago’s mission. Supervises contract management and accounting staff. The DoF reports to the Chief Operating Officer and interacts with the Board of Directors and Board Finance, Investment and Audit Committee on fiscal and investment matters.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Budgeting:
Lead the annual budget development process, monitor expenditures and variances, and proactively update income and expense projections.
Chart cash flow and ensure cash flow needs.
Manage and track deferred revenue; maintain updated documentation of release of restrictions.
Oversee grant and donor receivables and coordinate tracking with development and program teams.
Oversee documentation of pro bono revenue, fiscal agency and other special revenue and invoicing needs.
Oversee contract based monthly invoice process and quarterly financial reports.
Prepare all grant budgets, and grant budget variances or other fiscal reports for funders.
Exercise final review of organizational budgets, and final review and approval for all grant budgets and fiscal reports.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare monthly and ad hoc financial reports for the CEO, COO and Board of Directors.
Implements reporting and systems for department and program leaders to manage P&Ls with support from DoF.
Manage annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with audit firm.
Oversee tax preparation and filing in conjunction with external auditor and serve as the primary point person for the external auditor.
Oversee timely and accurate bookkeeping, bank deposits, receivables, and payables.
Develop and implement systems, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all funding requirements.
Reviews and analyzes cash collection data and aging reports for assigned areas and for staff accountants/financial analysts.
Oversees month-end close related to contract revenue accruals and staff allocations
Lead and support response to other financial audit requests from funders, including City and State.
Strategic Leadership
Supervise the accounting department to ensure smooth day-to-day functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting.
Champion direct report(s), including setting and tracking goals and providing coaching, development, and training to meet and exceed performance objectives.
Ensure all fiscal policies, procedures and documentation are adequate to protect the organization.
Set up and manage people and systems to ensure adherence to restricted grant budgets, including periodic updates on budget variances and preparation of budget modification documents.
Serve as staff liaison to the Board Treasurer and Finance, Investment and Audit Committee.
Develop and oversee document retention policies and manage disposal of records.
Participate as a member of the Leadership Team, collaborating cross-functionally and supporting other organizational leaders.
Requirements
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge & experience developing, managing, scenario planning, forecasting and evaluating multi-million dollar budgets and revenue streams within a matrixed leadership structures

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of accounting experience is required. Nonprofit accounting, cost accounting and experience with public and private revenue streams highly preferred.
Computer Skills: Proficiency Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word. Proficiency in Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by NAMI Chicago
