POSITION SUMMARY:

Serves as liaison between Environmental Health and Safety and UT Physicians (UTP) clinics and also acts as a resource to UTP administration, department managers, supervisors, physicians, and staff on all matters related to environmental health and safety, point of care testing, and loss control. This position resides under the Hospital & Clinic Safety Program within EHS and reports to the Safety Manager of the Hospital & Clinic Safety Program.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Assists the Clinical Safety Coordinator with the incorporation of new and acquired clinics into the EHS system, including notification of inspections, requests for licensure changes, initial training, and waste management.

Assists in the investigation of incidents that involve occupational illnesses and injuries to identify trends, mitigate hazards and develop prevention strategies/programs.

Assists the Clinical Safety Coordinator in monitoring UTPhysicians compliance with CMS standards.

Assists the Clinical Safety Coordinator with CLIA compliance including maintaining and modifying certification paperwork, quality control review for point of care testing (POCT) logs, proficiency testing, assisting with accreditation inspections, and implementing regulatory changes as they occur.

Assist in the collection and maintenance of performance metrics for EHS regarding services provided for UT Physicians clinics.

Assist the Clinical Safety Coordinator with the day-to-day management of the UT Physicians Clinical Safety Survey process, including the performance of clinic safety surveys, updates to the surveys, and deficiency resolution.

Observes work procedures of personnel to assure proper use of equipment and safe working conditions.

Participates in the establishment of training mechanisms to assist individuals in the proper application of safety regulations and procedures in working with hazardous agents.

Attends conferences, meetings, and workshops to keep abreast of new safety techniques and changes in codes, regulations, and technology.

Creates, monitors, and reports on performance improvement indicators for areas of responsibility.

Communicates ongoing metrics, areas of success, opportunities for improvement, and recommended plans of action to management.

This job classification is designated as "essential" at UTHealth Houston. In case of an emergency, "essential" positions are those required to sustain clinical services and/or are responsible for the protection of university assets. Personnel in designated "essential" positions are expected to report to their designated work site during their appointed work schedules, even when the institution has been officially declared to be on "restricted access" or "closed" due to adverse conditions.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Preferred certification depending on the work assignments: Point of Care Specialist Certification.

Bachelor’s degree in basic or applied science or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience in lieu of education.

At least One (1) year experience in environmental protection, biological safety, radiation safety, chemical safety, chemistry, health and/or occupational safety. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
