Theater Camp Drama Instructor, Grades K - 3, Summer Day Camp Drama Teacher

Job Description Job Description Share your love of drama, acting and improv. with children this summer! Camp Kaleidoscope, the JCC performing arts day camp in Newton, is looking for creative and enthusiastic drama instructors and youth theater directors who can make performing and acting fun. Activities may include storytelling, acting instruction, improv. games and more. Teach up to five daily drama classes to campers entering grades K-3 (grouped by grade level) and direct two camper shows / performances during the summer.

Camp Kaleidoscope draws creative youth interested in the arts, science and the outdoors. Supportive, experienced counselors and teachers guide campers as they develop and build self-confidence. Camp is fast-paced, nurturing and supportive, as both campers and staff develop lifelong friendships.

Responsibilities

Curriculum development and managing supplies/equipment

Lead drama, acting, and improv experiences

Create a fun/joyful dynamic

Lead up to 5 activities daily, culminating in exhibits for Arts Night every 4 weeks

Work in partnership with peers and Camp Leadership to provide a happy, safe and memorable summer for the children

Contribute, as needed, to camp special events and initiatives

Schedule

June 20 through August 16, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Mondays through Fridays, Full-time seasonal

Requirements

Portfolio, degree or significant experience in acting, drama, and/or performing arts

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria .

Skills & Abilitis

Experience with children

Excellent group management skills

Flexibility in plans and positive attitude

Enjoy working with children and a strong desire to make a difference every day

Ability to multitask and to manage situations effectively and diplomatically

Ability and commitment to build strong relationships with campers, parents, co-workers, and camp leadership
