Public Health Coordinator - Health Promotion (Health Services)

Position Summary
This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.
The primary function of this position is to inform, educate and empower people about healthy lifestyles. The Health Promotion Coordinator, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates county-wide health education programs; provides technical assistance to organizations and groups; consults with local consumers; and performs related work as required.
Pay Grade: 51
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
100% -
1. Three (3) years of experience in public health, health promotion or education; and
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health administration, health education, health promotion or related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements all activities of the health promotion program, which may include educational classes, incentive programs, and community events.
2. Educates Shelby County residents on health awareness and lifestyle modification.
3. Develops and reports annual State Health Promotion Plan.
4. Evaluates programs success and report finding to management.
5. Maintains current knowledge of health promotion topics to keep health education program material current.
6. Provides a healthy workforce through coordination of wellness programs for SCHD employees.
7. Coordinates and ensures supplies, equipment, and files are maintained in properly secured storage.
8. Mobilizes community partners to address public health issues and policies.
9. Provides technical assistance and consultation to community agencies.
10. Coordinates and trains the community on Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).
11. Attends meetings and community events to promote health and wellness.
12. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

1. Knowledge of Principles of health behavior, preventive medicine, and epidemiology.
2. Knowledge of health education theory and practice.
3. Knowledge of health education programs, policies, and trends.
4. Knowledge, understanding and application of public health principles.
5. Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.
6. Ability to plan and evaluate programs.
7. Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
9. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form with diverse audiences.
10. Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and social media platforms, and other County software applications.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one upon date of employment.
2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
3. Work will require attendance at meetings and community events on weekends and/or after regular work hours.
4. Work will require travel to locations outside of the office.
