Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston’s McGovern Medical School (MMS) is seeking a Director of Continuing Medical Education (CME) to develop, administer, evaluate and assure the delivery of high-quality continuing medical educational training and programs for our physicians. This newly created position reports directly to the Vice Dean of Educational programs and will work in close coordination with the Chair of Continuing Medical Education and other key stakeholders within the Office of Educational Programs and MMS leadership. The Director will join at an exciting time upon MMS’ recent obtention of its ACCME accreditation.

The Director will oversee the rules and regulations that govern accredited continuing medical education and continuing professional development ensuring compliance within the established accreditation requirements for the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and other educational accreditation bodies. The data-informed leader will develop and maintain knowledge of important clinical issues and industry trends with the field of medicine. Additionally, the Director, CME plans and prepares all materials for accreditation review site surveyors and providers undergoing reaccreditation.

Founded in 1969, McGovern Medical School (MMS) was established to aid in closing the gap in physician shortages and accepted 19 students in its first class in 1970. Today, MMS is the eighth largest and most diverse medical school in the United States with over 2,000 faculty members and 1,000 residents and fellows. With 240 medical students currently enrolled in each class, MMS is positioned to meet the growing demand of physicians throughout the state of Texas and beyond. Accredited by the Liaison LCME and by SACSCOC, MMS is affiliated with Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center (which was recently named the second top-teaching hospital in the nation), MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Harris Health System.

Candidates should have at least seven years of related experience preferably in continuing medical education compliance and accreditation within a school of medicine. The ideal candidate will be innovative, organized, detail- oriented and a skilled investigator, staying abreast of ACCME rules and regulations. Must possessstrong interpersonal and communicationsskills and take great pride in building relationships with leadership, faculty and staff.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Directs the McGovern Medical School reporting of Continuing Medical Education (CME) to the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

Provides management and training to the personnel within the CME office, as well as to education coordinators for each CME event.

Develops and/or revises procedure manuals, forms and materials for development and implementation of CME activities.

Ensures all activity files, evaluations and planning are appropriately and accurately tracked.

Prepares and manages budgets related to CME events and the department.

Directs the department’s organizational development and strategic planning activities.

Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Extensive knowledge of ACCME policies and standards; excellent organization and communication skills; strong leadership and management skills; proficient in learning management software.

Seven years of related experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
