Senior Product Design Engineer

Job Summary
Performs Sol Components mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering work to ensure successful product and solution design and deployment. This position be a key contributor to the development of new and upgraded products based on market feedback, sales opportunities, and requirements for continuous product improvement. Key efforts include product documentation management, evaluation of new materials and structures, coordination/execution of product testing, and product certification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Evaluate and develop new component designs, materials, and processes to support product development and cost optimization
Characterize and document critical product performance parameters in support of product specifications and structural design requirements
Assist in hands-on field installation for prototype/alpha builds, and project construction as required
Support Supply Chain team on NPI supplier sourcing and validation, FAI and DFM feedback
Provide manufacturing engineering support to supply chain to help optimize component production
Manage product and components testing efforts and UL certification process
Support Quality team to develop specifications and execute on material quality control
Train associates, including operators, maintenance, engineers, etc. as required
Create fabrication drawings and provide quality reviews in support of structural design packages
Support business teams on BOM development and quotation processing
Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Excellent computer skills including MS Office, SolidWorks, MATLAB, ABAQUS, among others
Proficiency in finite element analysis
Strong internally and externally facing communication skills
Knowledge of solar industry
Familiarity with cold formed steel
Data Management: processing, interpretation, statistical analysis, and reporting skills
Knowledge of NEC, UL and/or IEC requirements and certification experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS or equivalent in materials or mechanical engineering
Minimum five years of experience in structural solar product design
Compensation
$140k - $165k
