Job Summary

Provides in-person, evidence-based instruction in 200-level Human Anatomy and Physiology courses. The successful candidate will be asked to teach both lecture(s) and lab(s) at one or both of the two Glendale Community College campuses.and to align their laboratory activities, level of instruction and grading policies with that established by the course coordinator. Must be committed to teaching a diverse population of students, meaningfully assessing their learning and adjusting instruction such that the same learning outcomes are achieved by all. The primary focus of this position will be to promote student mastery of anatomical terminology (using both models and plastinated cadavers) and related physiological concepts. Together, these two courses establish the foundational knowledge base for multiple allied health programs (like nursing). Schedule depends on departmental staffing needs; may include day, evening or Saturday meeting times.Provides in-person, evidence-based instruction in 200-level Human Anatomy and Physiology courses. Essential Functions

Instructs and supervises a diverse population of primarily pre-allied health students in classroom and hands-on laboratory settings

Develops written syllabi/course outlines, point distribution and grading standards, and instructional materials commensurate with others teaching the same courses and with college standards

Uses learning management system (Canvas) to communicate important information to students (e.g., scores, announcements, calendar) as well as a vehicle to improve student access to instructional resources.

Prepares and grades written exams, quizzes, and other assignments aligned with course competencies and level of expectation common to all faculty teaching that course and submits final grade for each student to the college records office. All A&P instructors teaching the same course use common laboratory practicals.

Monitors students' academic progress. Seeks ways to connect with "at risk" students and identify (and provide, whenever possible) relevant supports/resources to increase the probability of their long-term success.

Participates in course level assessment and uses results as a monitoring tool for the continuous improvement of student academic success; prepares assessment reports for the department Assessment Coordinator

Is available outside of class meeting time to assist individuals and small groups with their questions/concerns (e.g., before or after class office hours, via email, via video conferencing)

Remains current with developments in A&P through reading professional journals, participation/presentations at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops, and other professional development activities.

Meets deadlines established by department and college including those related to student attendance and withdrawal and submission of official rosters and grades

Abides by district's Administrative Regulations, Federal, state and college policies.

Attends/completes required college/district meetings, training sessions, acknowledgments and disclosures

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher in biology or a biology-related discipline. Master's degree or higher in a medical or health-related discipline (i.e. MD, PA, DVM, DPM, DO, DC, DDS, ND), or in Education, with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in a Biological or Life Science Area. Completion of coursework in program of study towards a Ph.D. in biology or biology-related discipline that includes a minimum of 30 graduate credits in discipline(s) identified below will be considered as equivalent experience to a Master's degree in the field. Acceptable disciplines and coursework include but are not limited to:

Agricultural Sciences, Anatomy, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Biology/Science Education (maximum of 6 graduate credits can be applied to the 18 required), Biomedical Sciences, Biosciences, Biotechnology, Botany, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Conservation-Wildlife/Plant/Animal, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Evolutionary Biology, Embryology, Entomology, Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, Ecology, Genetics, Immunology, Limnology, Mammalogy, Marine Sciences, Marine Biology, Medical Sciences, Microbiology-Soil/Medical/Veterinary, Molecular Biology, Mycology, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Nutritional Sciences, Ornithology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Parasitology, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Therapy, Physiology, Plant Science, Public Health- Epidemiology/Infectious Disease/Toxicology, Veterinary Sciences, Virology, Zoology.

Any course that falls outside of these should be referred to the BIO Instructional Council for determination as to whether it is within the scope of the teaching field.

EDU250 -Teaching and Learning in the Community College-or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

Desired Qualifications

Ph.D. or Master's degree requiring a "primary research" focused dissertation or thesis in an evidence-based discipline directly related to Human Anatomy and Physiology.

Lower division college teaching experience as primary instructor of record (for both lecture and lab) at community college(s).

Experience teaching both lecture and lab of a 200-level Human Anatomy and Physiology course(s) in a "face-to-face" format.

Experience teaching A&P laboratories using human cadavers in a "hands-on" teaching environment

Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse student population in their mastery of a course's stated learning outcomes.
