Posting Summary

The Rutgers Law School International Human Rights Clinic seeks one full-time legal Research Associate to work on human trafficking matters. The project will be funded for two years, beginning July 1, 2024. The position will focus primarily on building and maintaining a docket to vacate/expunge criminal convictions of persons who have been trafficked. This practice will be focused on NJ convictions but will likely involve working with advocates in other jurisdictions throughout the country to vacate/expunge criminal convictions of the Clinic’s clients in those jurisdictions. The Human Trafficking Research Associate will work closely with the Clinic Director and Clinic students and will interface (at the Clinic Director’s instruction and when warranted) with community groups, and anti-trafficking advocacy groups in NJ and nationally. The position will also help identify areas for legislative reform and impact litigation (related to human trafficking) to be handled by the Clinic.

Minimum Education and Experience

At least three years of litigation experience. NJ Bar strongly preferred. Knowledge of human trafficking issues and vacatur / expungement proceedings is a plus. Excellent inter-personal and writing skills. Facility with second language (preferably Spanish) is a plus.
