Safety Technician

As a Safety Technician at Talent Source, you will play a crucial role in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment in shipyard operations. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:

Responsibilities:

Conduct safety inspections and audits of shipyard facilities, equipment, and work areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies, procedures, and programs to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.

Provide safety training to employees and contractors on topics such as hazard recognition, fall protection, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.

Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with specific tasks and develop controls to mitigate risks.

Monitor and enforce compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, shipyard safety standards, and company policies and procedures.

Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training activities, incident reports, and other safety-related documentation.

Participate in safety committee meetings and collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to address safety concerns and promote a culture of safety.

Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in occupational safety and health.

Assist in emergency response and crisis management activities, including evacuation drills, fire prevention, and first aid response.

Requirements:

Previous experience in occupational safety and health, preferably in a shipyard or maritime environment.

Knowledge of shipyard safety regulations, including OSHA regulations, NAVSEA standards, and industry best practices.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate safety concepts and procedures to diverse audiences.

Ability to conduct safety training sessions and presentations to groups of employees and contractors.

Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex safety issues and develop practical solutions.

Certification or training in occupational safety and health, such as OSHA 30-hour General Industry or OSHA 500 Trainer certification, preferred but not required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Physical ability to conduct safety inspections and assessments in shipyard environments, including climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
