Job Summary

The purpose of the Strategic Education Initiatives Manager role is to manage development and effective delivery of diverse educational programs, pathways and professional development opportunities within the Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME). With a focus on centralized education program offerings management, learner engagement, faculty collaboration, and rigorous assessments and evaluations, this position ensures that the education and professional development programs within OGME meet the highest standards of excellence and innovation. The ideal candidate will be adept at juggling multiple responsibilities, streamlining processes, driving special initiatives, enacting improvements based on feedback and evaluations, and managing program operations, while adhering to compliance and program requirements for Graduate Medical Education.

The Strategic Education Initiatives Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the administrative operations and programming delivered to the UCSF Graduate Medical Education (GME) community in the areas of trainee well-being; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and curriculum offerings. The incumbent oversees the development and implementation of learning activities, program curriculum while tracking learner compliance and program compliance. The Strategic Education Initiatives Manager implements strategies for continuous process improvement to manage program quality, processes, and compliance. This position will also play a critical role in overseeing multiple events, including the annual new trainee orientation, diversity/equity/inclusion (DEI) events, and other GME-led initiatives. This role requires a high level of independence, outstanding written and oral communication skills, detailed follow-through, and the work is primarily self-directed and initiated. Performance is evaluated on the ability to meet goals and objectives within a multitude of tight deadlines. Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with program administrators, program directors, and other colleagues both internal and external to UCSF is key to success in this position.

Department Description

The Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME) in the School of Medicine Dean's Office is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and general management of more than 220 ACGME/ABMS, non-ACGME, and non-MD residency and fellowship programs, which train approximately 1,700 trainees each year. OGME works in partnership with the program administrators and program directors in the 20 UCSF clinical departments to ensure resident and fellow needs are met and programs are of the highest educational quality. In addition, OGME represents programs and their trainee interests in the UCSF campus, UCSF Health, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center communities. Areas of responsibility include program and institutional accreditation; resident and fellow well-being; resident and fellow credentialing, licensing, and appointments; educational technology; MedHub management; GME diversity, equity, and inclusion; patient safety and quality; events and programming for residents, fellows, program directors, and program administrators; resident and fellow development; program director and program administrator development; and communications. For the past ten years, UCSF has been the only medical school ranked in the top five for research and for primary care training and the OGME prides itself on serving the residents, fellows, faculty, and staff in the many residency and fellowship programs that provide this unparalleled patient care and service.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree education, administration or in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

5+ years directly relevant experience.

Advanced knowledge relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Advanced knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements. Maintains a broad range of expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices.

Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement complex processes and systems improving program quality and efficiency and reducing cost.

Excellent communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.

Advanced interpersonal skills. Skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Successful experience working with people with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.

Advanced organizational and project management skills. Ability to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply to administration of the entire program including organizing critical files for compliance.

In-depth knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.

In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals

Master's degree in related area preferred
