As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow, the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, at high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. This Principal PM lead role leading the Compute Platform PM Team will play a pivotal role in delivering new hardware and software technologies at scale that have a significant impact to the business and Azure. This candidate will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external suppliers (Orininal Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)/Original Design Manufactureres (ODM), Graphics Processing Units (GPU), Central Processing Units (CPU), system, memory, and others) to drive delivery of core technologies that enable our Cloud infrastructure. If you are an experienced PM leader with experience building high-performing, diverse teams, and a broad background in enterprise data center technologies from servers to infrastructure, processors, and high-power computing solutions and a desire to work with some of the world’s most talented engineers to deliver the hardware that drives the Cloud, then this is the opportunity for you!

We are looking for a Principal Program Manager, Manager to join the team.

Responsibilities

Manage a team of PMs who drive virtual teams of functional leads including members from hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking and datacenter operations for documenting a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) for the new product development and leading the project team to meet stated milestones.

Technical Program Management for new Cloud hardware development. Drive the development, planning & execution of a holistic cross-functional product development and/or launch strategy. Provides technical leadership and identify technical risks.

Collaborate with internal and external technology development partners to form a cohesive development plan.

Have an in-depth understanding of the product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for establishing an accurate and effective project infrastructure. Leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps and achieve objectives through a cross functional team.

Responsible for effective communication and escalation of risks and dependencies while ensuring timely decisions are being made.

Hold accountability for team and most or all portions of the work to deliver best in class architecture solutions.

Conducts risk management efforts in new product introduction, scenario planning and mitigation of risks, recovery from risks.

Communicate to and regularly interact with senior leadership, highlighting risks across functional teams and providing recommendations to support product level decisions.

Operate effectively in ambiguity. Apply process where it creates value, and design process where it’s needed. Recognize the situations where each approach is most appropriate.

Ensure cross functional alignment: generating clarity, tracking towards development milestones and overall readiness for all new Data Center infrastructure development, launch, and deployments.

Use program management tools and communication methods to ensure common understanding of program plan of record to stakeholders.

Monitor and measure engineering impact and performance results by tracking key performanceindicators.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

OR equivalent experience.

4+ years people management experience.

3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of technical program management or project management experience or a technical role with systems engineeringexperience.

4+ years of experience in managing a team of engineering and/or technical operations professionals responsible for critical systems and operations for a distributed organization.

Knowledge of high-volume server design and manufacturing is desired.

Knowledge of data centers and operation at scale.

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
