Overview

Groups is a rapidly growing, mission-driven healthcare company that provides affordable, evidence-based treatment for Opioid Use Disorder. Our model uses two of the most powerful tools for recovery: group therapy and medication for opioid use disorder with buprenorphine-naloxone. Our approach takes the best parts of mutual aid groups

(support, and community) and combines them with the latest medical science and technology. At Groups, our medical providers are a key component of our multidisciplinary care team that also includes substance abuse counselors, office managers and recovery support specialists

Our medical leadership provides a mixture of direct member care and administrative/leadership responsibilities.

At Groups, the Tennessee State Medical Director has both clinical and administrative responsibilities.

Clinically, you will work on a team of medical providers, counselors, and support-staff to provide direct care and medication management for our members throughout their treatment course.

As medical leader, you will directly manage medical providers and be responsible for overall quality of care and ensuring that the medical treatment provided is consistent with Recover Together's policies and procedures and the Groups Recovery System (GRS) Manual.

Additional administrative/leadership duties will include: Serving as the backstop for all medical concerns, serving (or delegating) as needed the collaborating/supervising physician for NPs and PAs, performing direct observation and chart review of other providers, serving as an expert consultant for complex clinical cases, serving as the medical expert consult for care teams, completing medical reviews of critical incidents, maintaining high quality care through support for of ongoing training and performance management of providers, and working with the regional leadership team in developing and deploying quality improvement initiatives.

The State Medical Director will manage a team of lead staff providers and senior staff physicians across multiple locations and states.

This role reports to

the Regional Vice President of Care Delivery.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Clinical Duties & Responsibilities [25%]

Adhere to all clinical policies and procedures as outlined in the GRS Manual

Direct member care duties

Determine each member's medical necessity and appropriateness for treatment pursuant to applicable clinical models, policies and procedures, and manuals (e.g., Recovery System Manual) as required by Groups Recover Together.

Prescribe medications for oud treatment and, where appropriate, other approved medications to treat withdrawal symptoms, in a manner consistent with Recover Together's policies and procedures and the Groups Recovery System Manual.

Maintain a panel of patients and serve as their dedicated provider, reviewing their care plan and medication management at each monthly visit or more often, as necessary or required by state regulations.

Sign all prescriptions on the same business day that they are generated.

Coordinate with community providers to support patients, as necessary.

Be available by phone/email to discuss patients' medical issues in between visits.

When medically necessary, see members in individual sessions to review medical progress and provide E&M services.

Provide regular coverage for makeup groups and makeup 1:1 sessions.

Provide, as needed, cross-coverage for colleagues and answers to medical questions when other providers are unavailable or clinical cases are escalated for your review.

Participate in the rotating "on-call" schedule of urgent prescription coverage.

Facilitate access to the State's prescription drug monitoring database so Groups staff can regularly monitor the Provider's patients' access to controlled substances, per Recover Together's clinical protocols.

Complete high quality, thorough and accurate

documentation for all medical encounters on the same business day as the encounter and in accordance with policies of the company.

Maintain patient records in confidence and complete records as required by HIPAA and other applicable federal/state laws, rules or regulations/company policies regarding medical records

Administrative and leadership duties

Directly manage medical providers; responsible for ensuring the overall quality of care and medical treatment is consistent with Recover Together's policies and procedures and the Groups Recovery System Manual.

Serve as the primary backstop for all medical concerns; be available for day to day escalations (via phone or email).

Partner with senior service delivery leaders on continuous improvement of

medical service delivery across the region.

Work with the medical leadership team to pilot new initiatives aimed at improving clinical outcomes and experience.

Partner with Regional Vice President of Care Delivery to ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage.

Assist with onboarding, training, and support of new providers.

Be an expert on Groups clinical and operational policies, procedures, and manuals. Be able to navigate complex clinical situations and "gray areas" in a manner consistent with Groups' philosophy and culture.

Serve as collaborating physician for assigned NP/PA providers and/or site medical director for specified sites, if applicable. This includes completing

supervision, documentation reviews, and chart reviews, and other audits

as required by state specific licensure regulations and company policy.

Be available for day-to-day escalations (via phone or email). Partner with the RVP of Care Delivery on complex cases, as needed.

Perform periodic chart reviews and direct observation of care for assigned providers and follow up with feedback.

Complete all required reviews for assigned

providers and provide feedback

on clinical/medical issues and performance management as needed.

Support ongoing Groups' trainings, performance improvement activities, and change management activities within states you are responsible for, especially for other medical providers.

Provide ongoing medical training and education of medical providers.

Assist with roll-out of new protocols, workflows, and care pathways.

Provide essential management of lead staff providers and senior staff physicians.

Be present in person at designated physical sites during designated times.

Assist with other duties as assigned by Regional Vice President of Care Delivery or Chief Outcomes and Medical Officer.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

You will work daily to overcome the barriers faced by members

throughout their recovery. This will require you to adopt a "member-first" attitude that prioritizes keeping members safe, by supporting ongoing engagement in treatment and continuous access to medications.

You will leverage telemedicine extensively in your work, so must be comfortable with technology and enthusiastic about the benefits of this modality.

Flexibility, empathy, and commitment to member success are critical attributes for a successful medical leader.

Ability to demonstrate recovery-sensitive behaviors, including choice of language, attitudes and interactions with members and staff.

Ability to maintain courteous and professional in all communications (verbal and written) with staff and members.

EMR fluency, ideally with eClinical-Works.

Spreadsheet and basic data analysis proficiency.

Ability to use discretion and work independently under general supervision.

Ability to understand and adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Physician with active, uncumbered

Tennessee

medical license,

and appropriate behavioral health or addiction medicine NPI taxonomy ( or willingness to adjust primary or secondary

NPI taxonomy ).

Tennessee

DEA with previous DEAX designation.

Addiction Medicine Board Certification or Sub-Specialty Preferred

At least 5 years of medical

leadership or management experience either during or after residency training.

Membership in the Interstate Medical Licensing Compact

or willingness to join.

Willingness and ability to become credentialed with all government and private health plans with whom Groups Recover Together is in network.

At least

1 year

of experience managing OUD with buprenorphine using a low-barrier philosophy.

At least 1 year experience working in a team-based-care setting with behavioral health providers (therapists, social workers, case managers, etc).

At least 2 years experience working with a similar member population (primarily medicaid, high burden of SDOH, SUD, and mental health diagnoses).

Access to reliable internet and telephone services, specifically 10M download and 5M upload package or higher, as well as a strong WiFi signal from your remote work location.

Must meet pre-employment requirements and maintain all applicable state and job-related guidelines for background screening. Depending on state-specific requirements, this may include fingerprinting, drug testing, health screening, COVID vaccination verification, CPR/Basic First Aid and license/credential verifications.
