Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to work as part of a team of auditors, with the assistance of clinical staff, conducting audits and investigations of all types of health providers that receive Medicaid funds to objectively review, monitor, and verify their compliance efforts with Medicaid rules, regulations, and policies. Audits and investigations may include the detection of possible fraud. This assists the OIGH’s mission to protect the integrity of the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and promote standards that benefit the citizens of Maryland and beneficiaries of its programs.\r\r\rThe Office of the Inspector General for Health is looking for a candidate with strong problem solving and investigative skills, who is self-motivated and goes above and beyond what is required. Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.\rExperience: One year of experience conducting financial and operational internal audits that include elements for finance and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program results.\rNotes: \r1. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.\r2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or universityfor therequired experience.\r3. Candidatesmay substitute one year of professional accounting experience for therequired experience. \r4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. \r

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which may require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r
