Job Description

Leads the institutional efforts of the public programming and educational departments of the museum. The Education and Programs Manager will develop, implement, manage and evaluate all public educational programming and PreK-12 educational initiatives, including distance learning, outreach and community programs. Acts a liaison between the Museum and area schools, West Texas A &M University faculty, staff, and students, as well as between the Museum and area community groups to develop program initiatives. Under general direction lead strategic planning and long-range goals of the department and assure they aligned with the institutional strategic goals of the Museum and University. This position requires work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Responsibilities:

Research and develop mission-driven programming with a focus on lifelong learning and promoting institutional awareness cover multiple disciplines.

Direct logistics and execute setup for receptions, special events, and educational programming suiting all ages.

Cultivate relationships with community stakeholders, speakers, and presenters in support of programming and community engagement.

Represents the education and programs departments and maintain dialogue with educators and administrators, members of the educational community to gathering information and feedback to better market and improve programs, while also promoting institutional awareness and encourage attendance.

Promotes the museum and its services to academic departments.

Develop content with Marketing team in support of educational, children, and general public programming.

Manage the research and development of educational components for permanent and temporary exhibits, including hands on components and other accessible components.

Facilitate relationships with the Education and public programming department and other departments internally and externally.

Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

One year of related experience in public programming and/or education within a museum setting.

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.

Knowledge of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Must be comfortable working with the general public via community outreach and donor relations.

Exceptional organization, ability to multitask, interpersonal and communication skills.

This position may supervise employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five years of related experience in public programming and/or education within a museum setting.

Knowledge of museum best practices and standards.
