Job Summary
The Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) is seeking candidates to fill a Head of Technology position. This individual will be responsible for leading the LGR Technology Team, in collaboration with the Biology and Computational Teams, to develop and implement an ambitious research program of technology development at the LGR, with a particular emphasis on the development of a platform for arrayed functional genomics screening using our custom designed, fully integrated, BSL-2 automation enclosure. The Head of Technology will develop innovative new ideas for functional genomics into next-generation platform tecnologies in collaborative projects with academic and industry partners across UCSF, UC Berkeley and GSK. This position will oversee the efforts of the LGR in automation, CRISPR technology development, arrayed high content imaging, next gen sequencing/single cell -omics and molecular biology.
Key responsibilities include communication with stakeholders, including presenting research, overseeing the LGR's technology strategy, planning for ongoing and future screens, making and meeting timelines for the Technology Team, and helping the LGR deliver results to our stakeholders.The Head of Technology will report to the LGR Scientific Director, manage multiple teams of engineers and scientists. Experience setting strategy and budget, managing projects and leading managers is required.

Department Description
The Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) is a collaborative effort between UCSF, UC Berkeley, and GSK. The LGR is focused on scaling up current and next generation functional genomics platforms to better understand the genetic basis of diseases. The LGR strives to build advanced CRISPR-based genome editing and functional genomics platforms empowered by human genetics and computational biology to discover drug targets with high probability of success, expand our knowledge on the human genome in various disease contexts through mechanistic investigation into previously unknown genes and their networks, and deliver innovative research tools that are optimized and scalable for both academic and drug discovery research labs across the partner institutes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Engineering, Chemistry or a related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Minimum 5 years of related experience
Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies
Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks
Demonstrated effective writing skills
Broad and working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives
Proven leadership ability. Effective problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization
Experience leading a team of technology professionals
Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information across disciplines. Understands how projects relate to other business strategies and initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or Advanced degree in Biology, Engineering, Chemistry
Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts
Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress. Demonstrated highly advanced organization and project management skills. Demonstrated strong conceptual and planning skills to analyze projects of broad and diverse scope. Understands the cost impact of projects, project tracking tools and metrics
