Wagstaff is looking for an Electrical Engineering student to join the team as an intern! This internship is open to current juniors or seniors. As an Electrical Engineering Intern at Wagstaff, you will work closely with Research & Development, Technical Services, and Automated Systems Group to learn more about Wagstaff equipment and systems. This internship prepares you for a successful career as an Electrical Engineer, with the potential to become a regular full-time member of the Research & Development team after completion of the internship.

Successful completion of the internship may result in eligibility to become an Electrical Controls Engineer at Wagstaff. However, completion of the internship does not guarantee an offer of employment with Wagstaff. The schedule and duration of the internship are anticipated to coincide with the chosen student’s academic enrollment and course schedule, with the option for up to 40 hours per week, depending on the student’s availability. Wagstaff manufactures equipment for aluminum producers, who process formed aluminum into parts and products you use every day.

Pay: $21.00 - 23.50 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Up to 40 Hours Per Week, Depending on Student Availability

Job Summary

Primary duty of the Electrical Engineering Intern is to work under the daily direction of Electrical Engineers to help support current production and development work as needed.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Successfully complete job-specific training on various topics

Work as a member of R&D, Tech Service, and ASG departments to perform tasks and assist with projects

Become familiar with Wagstaff aluminum casting equipment, associated design criteria, and philosophies

Assist with the design, installation, and troubleshooting, of various electrical control panels, process instruments, VFDs, servos, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems for industrial automation equipment control systems.

Assist with the design, building, and troubleshooting of digital and analog electronic circuits and embedded systems

Participate in product development activities

Assist with SCADA and PLC testing

Become familiar with AB PLC programming

Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly

Abide by company policies

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree program in Electrical Engineering, with an anticipated graduation date up to the end of Spring 2025 (current juniors or seniors), or a recent graduate up to 6 months ago.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job on Wagstaff premises, work is performed primarily in an adequately lit, well ventilated, general office environment. Close computer work is regularly required. The work usually involves minimal physical exertion. The noise level in the general office environment is usually moderate.

This job may require occasional or more frequent interaction with employees on the manufacturing shop floor. While on the shop floor, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with shop floor managers/employees may be necessary before entering the shop floor, and of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required on the shop floor. The noise level on the shop floor is often loud.

This job may also require occasional or more frequent travel to and work at customer sites. While at customer sites, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with and/or manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with customer managers/employees may be necessary before entering the customer site, and of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required at customer sites. The noise level at customer sites is often loud.
