Department Information One of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. The department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.
Job Summary The person in this position will be part of a dedicated team working to support clinical gene therapy trials in the US and abroad. As a team member you will be involved with developing state-of-the-art biologic and molecular assays that meet or help define FDA requirements.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Conducts research and performs established testing procedures, the latter will be performed in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines.
General Responsibilities
Conducts biologic and molecular analysis according to defined standard operating procedures for gene therapy vector products, transduced cells, and patient samples, and more.
Participates in assay development of new methods and protocols.
Performs preventative maintenance and verification of lab equipment and environmental monitoring equipment.
Supports supervisors in managing unexpected assay occurrences, deviations, and out-of-specification results so that reporting of unexpected findings are evaluated in compliance with government regulations including but not limited to FDA, FAA and others.
Qualifications EDUCATION
Required
Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
1 year of laboratory experience
Preferred
3 years of laboratory experience including GxP (GMP, GLP, GTP, CLIA or CAP) compliant laboratory experience
3 years of work in (1) GMP or other regulatory environment OR (2) performance of PCR and other molecular biology experience

Working Conditions / Demands The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Additional Information This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

Advertised Salary Selected candidate will be offered $41,808.00 - $54,350.40 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department.
