Process Design Engineer

Michael Baker International is seeking a Water Process Engineer to join the team in our Moon Township, PA office. As a part of our Water Practice, the successful candidate will be in our growing Industrial and Commercial Water group. They will work within an interdisciplinary team including mechanical engineers, Electrical engineers, GIS, estimators, project managers, vendors, and support drafting/design staff to ensure each integrated deliverable meets the client requirements.
Development of plans, specifications, reports and estimates for water/wastewater, and other water resources projects
Prepare design calculations for pumps and piping systems, chemical and physical treatment processes and water heat transfer systems; also continue to perform analysis, review, drafting, and construction document production of more complex concepts of the same type
Prepare Sequence of Operations to the control integrators to be able to construct and commission the SCADA system.
Utilize a CADD workstation to prepare process flow diagrams, piping and instrument diagrams, engineering construction drawings and oversee the production and completion of preliminary and final plan sets
Work with internal and external engineering teams in developing preliminary and final design plans, reports, drawings, BOM and details
Participate in design and quality reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations
Consult with and advise internal and external clients on project/process needs including, but not limited to, establishing manpower requirements, cost estimates, and design schedules
Provide input to projects during the conceptual and planning stages
Assign tasks to more junior-level design personnel, provide technical guidance, mentorship and review completed assignments for accuracy
Prepare detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of practical engineering knowledge
Capable of determining material types, descriptions, specifications and quantities for the project
Provide lower-level design/drafting personnel with design concepts for preparation of finished design drawings, general layouts, and guidance in refining technical requirements
Regularly interface with other departments, disciplines, clients, vendors, project managers, and project engineers in order to support production of project deliverables and to resolve conflicting priorities
Assist in the development, training and mentorship of junior staff
Work closely with other designer/drafters and engineers to ensure coordinated design
Apply standard drafting/design principles and theories to complete assignments
Prepare Installation Operations Manuals for completed systems
Interface with vendors to assimilate equipment into the system architecture, control scheme and process
Use technical manuals to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable standards or details such as ones employed by local government utility departments, state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) or other agencies
Read and understand orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs
Enforce adherence to department CAD standards through performance of CAD peer reviews
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
3-6 years of engineering design, 3D modeling and CADD workstation experience
PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months
Proficiency with MS Office Suite and AutoCAD/Civil 3D; familiarity with MicroStation is a plus
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $72,207-$108,335. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
