Job Description

The Department of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies (TECS) within the College of Education invites applicants for a two-year lecturer position with the possibility of renewal to begin September 1, 2024. The College seeks a teacher scholar with expertise in second language learning and literacy education with technology -mediated instruction (i.e., Computer Assisted Language Learning) combined with a demonstrable record of commitment to social justice: diversity, equity, inclusion, diversity, and access(ibility)social justice.

Requirements

We seek a highly talented faculty member who would assist with pre-service teacher education and ESL specialist preparation by possessing the following qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate by August 2024 from an accredited university in educational linguistics, bilingual education, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, dual language learning, technology mediated instruction, ESL, or equivalent related area.

Evidence of bilingualism/biliteracy and/or teaching/learning in bilingual/multiliterate contexts.

Evidence of successful teaching experience in college-level bilingual/ESL/multicultural teacher education courses that develop a deep understanding of critical sociocultural perspectives, ESL/bilingual methods and assessment, critical multiliteracies, second

language development related to academic literacy/ies, student identity, and social transformation in an increasingly globalized world.

Research, teaching, and/or community involvement that demonstrates a commitment to equity, and diversity, and social justice: diversity, equity, inclusion, and access(ibility).

Preferred Qualifications

Successful experience teaching (or related work) in a P-12 setting, preferably a bilingual/multilingual setting.

Bilingual/ESL/ Course/program development experience with critical multiliteracies and culturally sustaining pedagogies.

Teaching experience using instructional technology platforms and/or social media.

Proficiency to function at a professional level in a language other than English in all modalities (writing/speaking/reading/and writing).

Successful experiences engaging in collaborative decision-making to innovate, design and teach courses, and supervise clinical teachers associated with licensure programs, multilingualism and multiliteracy in the Dual Language Certificate.

Record of a strong commitment to social justice and multiculturalism through community and school partnerships.

Additional Information

The initial appointment is for two years. Reappointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.
