Designer – Substation Wiring/Physical Design



Job Description Ardmore Roderick is seeking a designer with specific substation physical design experience to join our growing team.  The successful candidate will begin as a member of a project team comprised of staff from multiple engineering firms.  The position is located at the Wilmington, Delaware office of a strategic partner.  After successful completion of tasks performed at the Wilmington location, there will be opportunity to perform as a team member at our King of Prussia Office.

As a designer, you are required to apply computer-aided drafting skills in the assistance of creating master sketches showing the scaled relation, with exact specification and dimensions, of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions, accompany and support experienced designers on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for design projects, and to interface with vendors and construction contractors.  As a designer you are also required to work independently and as a member of multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in developing electrical wiring and/or physical layout drawings, participate in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated electrical design, provide support to other designers and project team members in order to ensure a complete and timely design, independently and as a member of a design team, plan and execute electrical design deliverables, accompany and assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities, provide guidance to others in the use of drafting tools, and also to serve as a mentor in the development of less experienced drafters and designers.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

An associate degree in Computer Aided Design Or a high school diploma and 5 or more years drafting technical experience

Drafting experience using standard computer drafting tools (i.e. AutoCAD or MicroStation) MicroStation Preferred

Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer

2 or more years of detailed design experience in the development of electrical physical or wiring designs

Ability to multi-task from project to project

Other valued qualifications include:

Detailed physical design experience in the development of grounding layouts, underground duct bank and embedded conduit drawings, cable tray and exposed conduit layouts, electrical equipment location drawings, cable diagrams, wiring diagrams, and equipment panel diagrams.

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design
