Arc Herkimer is looking for an Employment Services Specialist. The Employment Service Specialist's function is to locate, develop, and maintain competitive and supported job sites which will provide work opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the Career Connections program, suitable to their interests, functional skills, and potential. To network with ACCESS VR, HCMH, Herkimer Clinic & Club, OPWDD, and other Service Providers and perform outreach work to increase referrals of individuals with disabilities to the Career Connections program. To provide job coaching services in both an intensive and extended phase to individuals in the Career Connections program.

Rate of pay- $16.25- $17.75

Responsibilities include:

For each participant, review and synthesize results of evaluation reports, psychological/psychiatric reports, physical information, work and social histories, and background information to enhance the employment goals of those supported.

Interview and routinely meet with persons supported to gain an understanding of their individual needs/goals related to job development and placement.

Facilitate the development of a realistic goal plan with the person supported and members of his/her Treatment Team, (i.e. Evaluator, ACCES-VR Counselor, family, Mental Health Service Provider, etc.) and make changes to these plans as necessary.

Monitor individual progress through periodic reviews and work site contacts and discussions with the employer.

Research existing and potential employers in order to ascertain specific knowledge of the business, including but not limited to employer needs, hiring practices and data on product lines

Assist persons supported in creating resumes and completing applications obtained from potential employers.

Provide training necessary to assist the individual in assimilating into the work environment in skills acquisition, attitudes, and social interactions.

Maintain participant records in compliance with regulations prescribed by ACESS VR, OPWDD, OMH, and other relevant authorities.

Position requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Business or related course of study and one year of related experience, or

Associates degree program in Human Services, Business or related course of study and two years of related experience or

High School diploma with three years of related experience.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

Experience in job placement and or a broad knowledge of industrial and commercial work opportunities and or as a Vocational Counselor would be helpful.

An Agency approvable driver’s license is required.

Must have a working vehicle and willingness to drive personal vehicle.
