The Director, Quality Innovation Center reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Northwestern Medicine Director, Quality Innovation Center, improves care across the Northwestern Medicine health system by serving as a leader in developing, catalyzing, and incubating innovative approaches at the intersection of quality improvement, innovation, and research.


Lead, plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of the Quality Innovation Center in collaboration with the VP, Quality

Plan, lead, and oversee system initiatives at the intersection of quality, innovation, and research

Lead selected high-profile, innovative improvement/research initiatives

Collaborate effectively across the health system, including but not limited to directors and managers of quality/process improvement/analytics/IT & IS, chief medical officers, chief nurse executives, operational leaders

Recruit and develop staff; coordinate expansion of the team

Maintain high levels of staff engagement, feedback, and performance

Manage team financials and budget process

Manage team human resources efficiently and effectively

Actively participate in presenting research at conferences and writing up research for publication

Advance patient care quality and safety across NM through innovation, collaborative learning, and research


Required :

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (RN, RPh, health administration, public health, etc)

5+ years of experience leading clinical quality, patient safety, or process improvement, including evidence of effective improvement initiatives

Master’s degree in relevant field (or an additional 2 years of relevant leadership experience)

Strong leadership, personnel management, and change management skills

Strong project management and facilitation skills

High level of energy and enthusiasm; flexible/adaptable ability to work with diverse group of healthcare professionals in a matrix environment; self-directed

Effective problem-solving and multi-tasking skills

Very strong verbal and written communication skills


Strong research competencies/training/experience (quantitative and qualitative; IRB management; presenting and publishing research; involvement in preparing grants)
