Alma is seeking a mission-driven Data Platform Engineer to join our team. We are dedicated to designing, implementing and maintaining Alma’s data infrastructure. In this role, you will build services and tools that solve real problems for Alma’s data teams. The ideal candidate can recognize that successful development requires communication, experimentation, and iteration.
As a founding team member, you will have a strong hand in defining and refining the underlying systems that power Alma’s analytics and machine learning tools. The ideal person for this role loves to work with other teams to support and enhance existing data infrastructure.
What you’ll do:
Gain a deep understanding of the analytics and data science processes at Alma and how the data teams operate.
Collaborate with teammates on Platform Engineering, Data Engineering, and Data Science, to understand and prioritize solutions for practical problems facing Alma data consumers.
Work to maintain, simplify and reinvent the systems underlying the data infrastructure. Technologies you’ll be working with include AWS, S3, DMS, Glue, Ansible, Docker, SQL, and Redshift.
Continually research current and emerging technologies, proposing changes where most impactful.
Provide high-quality documentation and training to set peers up for success.
Ensure data applications and services meet Alma's standards, including performance, scalability, and security.
Who you are:
You have 5-8 years of experience working with data infrastructure, data warehousing, systems architecture, and AWS related technologies.
You have experience maintaining, simplifying, and reinventing the systems underlying reporting, analytics, and data science functions, such as databases, business intelligence tools, machine learning systems, monitoring, and alerting.
You have worked with scaling challenges in previous roles and have implemented best practices around scaling.
You’re a systems thinker, concerned not only with individual component parts but with how those parts work together holistically.
You’re pragmatic, recognizing that, while there are multiple approaches to solving a problem, it is important to weigh practicality over theory when decision-making.
You are a strong communicator with engineers as well as non-technical stakeholders.
