Recreational Coordinator

Position Purpose:

Responsible for planning and providing life skills counseling and recreational therapy for the residents. Responsible for providing individual and group recreational programming to empower youth in developing skills, talents and a positive sense of self.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans, organizes, develops, directs, and facilitates comprehensive recreational programs and activities for youth in the residential setting.

Promotes improved self-concept, problem solving, life and social skills, through helping youngsters to experience mastery. Uses therapeutic games, long term projects, role play, challenge and wilderness experiences, sports and team-building activities.

Coordinates with program staff and residents for on and off campus activities and provides a monthly calendar of scheduled events within budgetary guidelines.

Supervises the Recreational Specialist with oversight of recreational programming implementation and consistency

Ensures that recreational activities include components of leisure awareness, self-awareness, decision making and social interaction.

Enhances residents’ ability to locate and utilize community resources as recreational outlets through leisure education programs.

Maintains recreational budget for weekly and monthly programming

Provides for the safety and well- being of residents involved in activities by having available, qualified support staff, proper equipment and utilizing appropriate safety procedures.

Provides behavior management and crisis intervention as required.

Participates in all COMAR required trainings.

Implements all COMAR, COA requirements and NCCF program policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

College degree (BA/BS) with two years related experience.

Ability to work on weekends

Strong child care leadership with an ability to support and motivate a diverse staff serving vulnerable youth.

Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and the Agency’s mission to progressively serve vulnerable families and youth.

Must possess an attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of NCCF.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required y this job require close vision working with a computer monitor. While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the responsibilities of the employee’s job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the employee will encounter.
