**Geotechnical Engineer**

Our client, a 30-person specialty consulting firm, specializes in geotechnical engineering and engineering geology, primarily serving the Pacific Northwest, Mountain West, and Alaska. Based in Portland, Oregon, we are currently seeking a geotechnical engineer with 4 to 7 years of experience to join our dam safety and slope stability/landslide practice groups. Our team of experts works closely together in a collaborative environment.

The firm's practice focuses on risk-based safety assessments of dams and levees, power generation & transmission infrastructure, transportation networks, water supply & distribution, and other civil works. We cater to both public and private sector clients. Our firm is also known for its expertise in landslide and rockfall analysis and stabilization, operating a Landslide Technology division to target slope stabilization projects nationwide.

We are looking to enhance our team with a geotechnical engineer who will work collaboratively with our engineers and geologists. Our staff typically works in small teams of 2 to 5 people, developing projects from conceptual design through to construction. These teams are led by project managers with extensive experience, who focus on mentoring junior staff and enhancing their technical skills and knowledge base. Engineers usually work on multiple projects simultaneously, depending on the project schedule.

Key responsibilities for this position include:

\- Planning, managing, and executing site investigations for dams, levees, and landslides.

\- Developing and executing laboratory testing programs.

\- Completing design analyses and calculations for slope stability evaluations, seepage studies, seismic site response studies, structure foundations, and retaining structures.

\- Writing geotechnical reports or sections of reports summarizing engineering analyses and design recommendations.

\- Performing specialized geotechnical inspection and design duties during construction.

\- Developing construction plans with assistance from technical draftsperson.

\- Developing construction specifications and cost estimates.

\- Working with senior staff to develop scopes of work and budget estimates.

The ideal candidate would possess the following attributes:

\- MS/BS degree in geotechnical or geological engineering, or MS/BS in civil engineering with a geotechnical specialty.

\- 0 to 7 years of work experience.

\- EIT or PE registration, depending on years of experience.

\- Strong background in soil mechanics.

\- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

\- Experience using geotechnical engineering software (e.g., GeoStudio Suite, FLAC, LPILE, MATLAB/Python).

\- Experience collecting and analyzing data from geotechnical instrumentation (inclinometers, piezometers, etc.).

\- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Microstation.

\- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and apply new techniques/tools.

\- Ability to work effectively in project development teams of 2 to 5 persons.

\- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

\- Willingness and ability to travel within the region as needed.

This is a full-time position. Salary will be negotiated based on the applicant's level of experience. The position includes the following benefits:

\- Compensated time off or pay for work beyond 40 hours.

\- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.

\- 401(k) plan with company contributions.

\- 8 holidays per year.

\- 17-22 days of paid time off per year, depending on years of experience.
