Position Overview

The Global Programs Manager will implement, supervise, monitor, and oversee all regional and global travel programs and operations in grades K-12 in our international school, building a culture of thoughtful, ethical travel deeply grounded in our school values and centered on intercultural learning and global citizenship. This program’s mission is to encourage students to connect with and contribute to communities around the world, to think critically about challenges faced by local and global communities, and to learn to reflect deeply on their own growth and values as they broaden their horizons.

Key Responsibilities:

In collaboration with section principals, administer a diverse offering of regional and global travel experiences and exchanges that meet the educational mission of the school, create age-appropriate learning experiences that fall within the risk management parameters of the program

Identify trip leaders and support them in creating programs, including exchanges and trips, both homegrown and with vendor partners; maintain communication with trip leaders throughout the planning process, including planning and providing rich experiences for exchange program participants who visit our school

Collaborate with the CFO to create an annual budget, track and manage costs to ensure delivery of programs within budget, ensure appropriate vendor contracts and timely payment, and maintain clear records of expenses and all communications related to finances.

Collaborate closely with the administration and Leadership Team to build and manage a well-trained Travel Coordination and Response Team of administrators to oversee communications and decision-making around emergent situations that arise while students are in the field

Collaborate with, manage, and support faculty leaders to communicate clearly and effectively on all aspects of pre-departure preparedness, including registration for trips, packing lists, medical advice, and pre-trip educational activities.

Evaluate vendors, manage vendor relationships, and maintain a list of travel and transportation vendors for use across the school

Organize, oversee, and maintain effective documentation of all travel logistics, including all flights and transportation

Manage document collection from students and families in preparation for travel and collaborate with the CFO and business office to manage payment

Recruit and assign chaperones in collaboration with the section teams or other relevant trip leaders and maintain records necessary for chaperone compensation

Organize training and development for chaperones to support safe, effective, mission-oriented travel experiences, and provide opportunities for trip leaders to reflect on, grow, and improve their practices through access to a variety of professional development offerings

Serve as the face of the program for our students and families, providing clear, mission-driven messaging around offerings, organization, and policies

Communicate with students, families, and chaperones to identify and ensure implementation of physical and other accommodations during travel, in collaboration with the student support team of each school section (principals, counselors, etc.)

Collaborate with and support faculty leaders and vendors in developing and implementing high-quality, meaningful pre-departure curricula that prepare students well for travel and foster global citizenship and intercultural skills

Provide for the specific needs of exchange visitors, including identifying host families, preparing them to provide safe, welcoming environments, ensuring all school policies and practices are implemented, and supporting program leaders to provide learning experiences for visitors in keeping with our school values

Create opportunities for reflection and feedback by all constituencies to build learning and continuous improvement, including the facilitation of an annual program review that addresses risk management, policies, organizational structures, and achievement of educational goals

Maintain and build on the visibility of our programs beyond our immediate school community and participate actively in the wider network of global and experiential education professionals

Key Qualities
