Job Summary

The objective of the Education Project Coordinator is to support and assist with delivery of post-secondary programming including summer internship experiences within the Indigenizing Education in Alaska program and post-secondary pathways support for partner districts in the Haa' Latseeni initiative. This position will be responsible for coordinating participant, chaperone, and support staff travel through SHI’s travel department. This position will also be instrumental in the planning and execution of the project’s annual College & Career Summit and Juneau Traditional Games.

Duties/Responsibilities

Responsible for planning and booking travel for biannual visits to partner schools in Southeast Alaska and to work with the Liaison in those schools to schedule and deliver programming.

Responsible for support with coordination and execution of Native Youth Olympics/Traditional Games.

Responsible for support with coordination and execution of the Indigenous Future Educators summer programming and school-year mentorship opportunities.

Support of and participation in Indigenous Educators community of practice.

Provide information to other departments and outside agencies in support of SHI’s programming for post-secondary college and career readiness.

Assists with pre/post participation survey data entry and management.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and activities with attention to detail.

Strong organizational and planning skills in project logistics and events.

Technical capacity and expertise in using spreadsheets and databases.

Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and languages.

Experience with Native Youth Olympics/Traditional Games.

Experience working with Alaska Native youth.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have no direct reports.

This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

About this Role

This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, employees may work up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. Regular travel to grant funded communities is expected.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in education, language, or project-related field.

2 years of professional work in project management and program coordination.

Experience working with Alaska Native youth in formal and informal education settings.
