The Director of Nursing Services (DNS) plans, organizes, develops and directs Emerald Heights’ nursing care in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure that the highest degree of quality care for residents is maintained at all times.
Pay Range: $120,000-$160,000
In addition, you will be eligible for a bonus based on performance.

Matching begins the first of the quarter following 1 year of employment. Full-time employees are
eligible to accrue up to 16 paid time off days, 6 paid holidays and 3 personal days. Pro-rated paid time
off is available to part-time employees.

Primary Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs all nursing services in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern Emerald Heights.
Identifies resident care needs and provides assistance within the scope of the residential health services program to meet those needs.
Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with residents, families, physicians, medical services and hospitals.
Identifies and implements effective shift to shift communication systems and alert charting.
Develops methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
Participates in the duties of Infection Control Prevention
Manages incident investigations and compliance with reporting log.
Reviews reference material, i.e., PDR’s federal and state regulations, etc., filed at nurses’ work centers to ensure the information is available and current. Updates materials as required.
Participates in the development, maintenance and implementation of the quality assurance program for nursing services.
Participates in surveys with authorized governmental agencies.
Participates in 24 hour on-call nurse management rotation.
Encourages residents to participate in the development and review of his/her plan of care. Reviews clinical alternatives with residents and their families.
Reviews the written plan of care for each resident to include identifying the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
Reviews nurses’ notes to determine if the care plan is being followed.
Attends care conferences and assists with discharge planning to the appropriate level of care.
Provides liaison with primary care provider in the event of an episodic illness; assists in coordinating services provided by primary care provider.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Current unencumbered Washington RN license required.
Five years’ experience in a long term care facility.
Three years supervisory experience.
Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
Accredited Infection Control Preventionist Certification preferred
Complete understanding and knowledge of nursing, medical practices and procedures as well as federal and state regulations and guidelines pertaining to skilled long-term care and assisted living.
Ability to interpret, plan, develop and organize the Nursing Services program and goals.
Ability to supervise and lead assigned staff to meet goals and expectations.
Patience, poise and dignity in an emergency or crisis situation.
Able to relate to and work with a diverse population.
Strong time management skills with ability to delegate tasks and projects.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and a comfort with technology.
Excellent English communications skills, both verbal and written.
