Position Summary
Under direction, performs echocardiography techniques. This role does not scan independently until incumbent passes registration and meets departmental competency assessment.
Job Responsibilities
Performs echocardiograms and Doppler studies and explains procedures to patients and/or guardians. Utilizes portable equipment as necessary for performing echocardiograms on patients.
Performs quality assurance related activities. Maintains statistics, checks equipment, performs preventative maintenance and initiates calls for equipment service as necessary.
Assists in the scheduling of patients requiring an echocardiogram.
Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed.
Records data, calculations and measurements of echocardiograms according to its anomaly.
Completes and distributes completed reports, digitized studies and videotapes as needed.
Assists with training fellows, visiting physicians, medical students and staff in the performance and interpretation of echocardiogram and Doppler studies.
Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate.
Education
Associate's Degree
Experience
Recent graduate of a CAAHEP or Bachelor’s degree program with a concentration in Echocardiography.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible status. Must pass registry within two months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated working knowledge of echo-contrast and stress echocardiography.
Licenses and Certifications
ARDMS Certification
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or registry eligible status
BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
