The University is building the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine, or the IllinoisCOM (applicant status – seeking accreditation), anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a m ission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate, patient-centered care of the highest quality.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Chicago School is hiring a Director of Clinical Education to serve as a critical leader in assisting the Department of Clinical Education (Director) in developing and maintaining clinical training for Illinois COM students in the 3 rd and 4 th years of medical education. The Director role offers a unique opportunity to lead the integration of clinical experiences and academic rigor, ensuring the development of competent , compassionate , and patient-centered physicians. Responsible for managing partner relationships, overseeing clinical rotation quality, and ensuring accreditation compliance, the Director will navigate affiliation agreements, expand clinical rotation opportunities, supervise administrative staff, and develop educational programs for students. This pivotal role requires meticulous attention to detail to maintain current agreements and ensure alignment with clinical education goals. The IllinoisCOM is located in Chicago, IL. This is initially a hybrid role but will shift to being in-person full-time on our Chicago campus before the matriculation of the first cohort in August of 2026 . T ravel to support clinical site development, program management, and accreditation activities is required and can vary in frequency as these activities vary throughout the year . The Director will report to the Associate Dean o f Clinical Education Affairs

PRINCIP LE DUTIES:

Partner Relationship Management and Clinical Rotation Quality Control

Ensure the IllinoisCOM’s educational and administrative obligations to our partner hospitals/clinical sites are accomplished per established affiliation agreements.

Interface with partner hospitals and clinical sites to ensure students meet onboarding requirements before beginning a rotation.

A ssist the Associate Dean of Clini cal Affairs in coordinating, collecting, and documenting data and information related to meet ing clinical education accreditation requirements.

V isit affiliate hospital s and clinical sites to meet with students and academic and administrative staff consistent with accreditation requirements.

Work with affiliated hospitals' academic and administrative staff to expand rotations and create new opportunities for core clerkship and fourth-year students.

Serve as the point of contact with hospital systems or clinical offices considering or establishing new core or elective rotations.

Work with physicians and m edical s taff o ffices of partner hospitals and affiliated sites and the IllinoisCOM Department of Clinical Education to ensure proper credentialing of teaching staff.

Student and Department Staff Management

Supervise all administrative staff in the Department of Clinical Education .

Develop and deliver educational programs for pre-clerkship students to aid in their transition to core and fourth-year clinical clerkships

Serves as a point of contact for all preclinical students regarding the clinical years of training and shadowing opportunities.

Create and maintain a student handbook regarding clinical education matters

Create and maintain an elective guide for 3rd and 4th year students.

Affiliation Agreement Management

Serve as the point of contact for the a cademic and l egal teams at partner hospitals related to clinical affiliation agreement matters .

Ensure all affiliation agreements are current .

Review all a ffiliation a greements to document clinical education requirements appropriately .

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree or above in a related field

F ive (5) years of experience in clinical education at an LCME or COCA-accredited medical school.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with diverse populations, awareness of one’s attitudes, beliefs, biases, and assumptions about others , and a record of respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one’s own.

T he ability to create an inclusive, equitable , and welcoming environment within the college .

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Exceptional skill at analyzing a situation, distilling a problem, providing feedback, and designing and implementing effective solutions that support an organization’s overall mission and strategic mission.

Exceptional t ime management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Experience with an array of technology platforms.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This opportunity is budgeted at $ 6 5,000-$ 9 5,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
