The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), Health Communication Science Office (HCSO) is recruiting a Health Communications Specialist GS-1001-9.

HCSO advances the mission of NCBDDD by using internal and external communication strategies and tactics. As a result, HCSO plays a key role in enhancing the overall awareness of these priorities among target audiences. The primary goals of HCSO’s communication approach include: to raise awareness and perceived value of NCBDDD science and programs among internal and external audiences through the employment of audience-centered, digital-first communication strategies that drive action, to increase understanding, engagement, and value of HCSO offerings among internal audiences, and to serve as NCBDDD communication science advisors and managers in order to advance the mission of NCBDDD.

Duties

Serve as a liaison between program and other communication and marketing staff or external stakeholders.

Maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders to promote and sustain programs.

Work with other communicators on specific projects and programs.

Coordinate media production (e.g., graphics, broadcast production), risk communication activities, marketing campaigns and activities, publications for professional and public audiences, electronic health communication and marketing activities (e.g., Web, podcasts), and partnerships and strategic alliances.

Work with senior health communication staff in providing technical assistance in communication and marketing to internal staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

To qualify at the GS-9 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level, which must include the following experience in translating audience-based products, tools, and messages to different audiences using various formats.

or

completed a Master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters; or LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university.

or

Have a combination of graduate level education beyond the first year of progressive graduate study and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirement for this position.
