Senior Designer - Substation Physical Design



Job Description Ardmore Roderick is seeking a senior designer with specific substation physical design experience to join our growing team.  This position will support project work related to our partnership with Sargent & Lundy.  As a member of this team you are employed by Ardmore Roderick, but you will be located within Sargent & Lundy’s Wilmington Delaware office.  In addition to the Wilmington office, there is opportunity to transfer to Ardmore Roderick’s King of Prussia Office to support similar design opportunities for the partnership and other clients.

Ardmore Roderick is seeking a senior designer with specific substation physical design experience to join our growing team.  The successful candidate will begin as a member of a project team comprised of staff from multiple engineering firms.  The position is located at the Wilmington, Delaware office of a strategic partner.  After successful completion of tasks performed at the Wilmington location, there will be opportunity to perform as a team member at our King of Prussia Office.

As a senior designer, you are required to work with a team of engineers and designers to support walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for design projects, and to interface with vendors and construction contractors.  As a senior designer, you are also required to work independently and as a member of multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams in developing physical layout drawings, participate in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated design, provide support to other designers and project team members in order to ensure a complete and timely design, plan and execute electrical design deliverables, accompany and assist less experienced designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities, provide guidance to others in the use of drafting tools, and also to serve as a mentor in the development of less experienced drafters and designers.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

An associate degree in Computer Aided Design Or a high school diploma and 15 or more years drafting technical experience

Advanced drafting experience using standard computer drafting tools (i.e. AutoCAD or MicroStation) MicroStation Preferred

Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer

15 or more years of detailed design experience in the development of the below substation design deliverables Substation General Arrangement

Substation Electrical Equipment Plans

Substation Section Views (Elevations)

Substation Detailed Bill of Material

Substation Lightning Stroke Shielding Plan

Substation Grounding Plan

Substation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details

Substation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plan

Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Section

Ability to multi-task from project to project

Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables

Performing walkdowns at client facilities

Researching, deciphering, and applying client standards

Other valued qualifications include:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution

Engineer in Training or Engineering Intern License (EIT/EI)

Experience with the National Electric Safety Code

Strong written and verbal communication skills
