Our client is a privately held company, headquartered in the western suburbs of IL, and is a custom foodservice distribution company that provides logistics management services to their customers, nationwide, through a network of distribution centers. They serve foodservice customers in government and municipalities. They have state of the art software and their purchasing and logistics departments collaborate efficiently to increase levels of functional and financial performance along with the goal of lower operating expenses and inventory across their distributions centers. Long-standing alliances with key suppliers, warehouses, and dedicated logistics partners help take costs out of the system and improve customer satisfaction. Purchasing, Inventory, and Logistics management optimization ensures customers receive quality product when their clients need it.
They are looking to hire a SENIOR DIRECTOR OF LOGISTICS.
ROLE:
Oversee the distribution and logistics operations for the company, including but not limited to warehousing and transportation.
Supervise and manage the logistics team.
Understand the overall operation at all department levels.
Manage warehouse and transportation operations with multiple third-party partners.
Act as a liaison with the companies that manage the distribution to ensure a mutually beneficial partnership that often results in cost savings.
Maintain strong relationships with transportation companies, warehouse operators, and staff.
Negotiate storage & handling rates and distribution agreements with multiple 3PL warehouses.
Negotiate transportation rates and agreements with carriers.
Ensure total compliance with company and customer policies and procedures with 3rd party providers.
Locate and startup a new distribution center for new business.
Present costs to management in a clear-cut manner
Ensure service levels are consistently met and maintained.
Monitor and manage KPI’s relating to case pick accuracy, on time delivery.
Improve operational inefficiencies, identify process improvement, and implement changes.
Prepare logistics operations for expected challenges relating to change in volumes, new business, loss of business, weather (hurricanes).
Resolve all customer or vendor complaints/concerns relating to our logistics/distribution operation in a timely manner.
Work internally with Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Service Departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in a leadership role managing 3rd party logistics in food distribution
Strong knowledge of distribution processes for frozen and dry food distribution.
Experience with case pick a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to collaborate with other departments to do what is best for the company.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute logistics strategies that drive efficiency and cost savings.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
