The Director of Surgical Simulation and Education is responsible for overseeing the implementation of educational programs for surgical residents and medical students. The Director will work closely with faculty members to deliver a curriculum that enhances the technical and nontechnical skills of faculty and trainees. The position is intended for a researcher looking for an opportunity to build and lead a scholarly simulation-based education. The appointment will be at the Assistant/Associate/ level depending upon academic achievement. The candidate will be charged with the development of an extramurally funded Surgical Simulation and Education program within the Department of Surgery.

The Department of Surgery at New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, located in Newark, NJ, invites applications for full time, nontenure-track appointments at the Associate or Assistant Professor level. We are currently recruiting candidates with expertise in surgical graduate education, surgical simulation, augmented reality, AI and experience with discrete event, dynamic and process simulation. The position will be supported by a competitive start up package with exceptional candidates being considered for further support as a Chancellor Scholar.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Applicants must have a masters or Ph.D. in Education, Human Factors or equivalent degree, post-doctoral experience, excellent communication skills and a record of productivity working with simulation education and research. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have a substantial trajectory toward developing a rigorous, externally funded research program. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have a national scientific reputation, current research funding and a history of mentorship and leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Master or Doctoral degree in Medical Education, Human Factors, or a related field.

At least three years of experience in education, with a record of scholarship in medical education.

Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with experience supervising faculty and trainees.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with faculty, trainees, and other stakeholders.

A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of surgical education.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to evaluate and improve educational programs based on data and align the educational needs, plan, and implement a unified, innovative, and scholarly approach to surgical simulation training.

Overview

The Skills Lab is an integral part of the Department of Surgery education and training program at RBHS . Research and training in surgical simulation is a fundamental and emerging field in surgical training, research and education.
