General Description

The GL Accountant position is responsible for providing exceptional support for General Ledger accounting duties and serving as backup for other accounting functions. This position requires a strong focus on internal customer satisfaction, meeting deadlines, accuracy, and maximizing efficiency through solid processes and systems.

Essential Roles And Responsibilities

Provide exceptional customer services to internal staff, subcontractors, and vendors.

Maintain General Ledger Accounts: add/inactivate accounts and ensure accurate account records, add/delete cost centers and update relevant information.

Maintain Accounting System: add/delete users and ensure proper access levels, Setup security profiles to safeguard sensitive financial information, troubleshoot issues and coordinate with IT for system enhancements and problem resolution.

Support Banking Operations, such as: upload check registers to accounting system, review transactions for potential fraud and take necessary preventive measures, review, and release purchase requisitions (PR) and accounts payable (AP) payments.

Maintain, review, and post/update the following a weekly and/or monthly basis: invoices, cash receipts, journal entries accurately and in a timely manner, job cost changes and ensure proper cost allocation, direct checks, and verify appropriateness, intercompany billings and reconcile with related entities, overhead tracking jobs and facilitate the transition from direct to indirect costs, facilities and G&A pools and ensure accurate allocation.

Reconcile the following monthly: bank statements with General Ledger records, fixed assets by reconciling the Fixed Assets System (FAS) with the General Ledger and posting and reconciling the depreciation, labor expenses to General Ledger records, job costs to General Ledger and cost centers to maintain accurate project tracking, fringe rates to ensure proper allocation and calculation, cost allocations to verify accuracy and adherence to established guidelines.

Compile audit data: create requested schedules and provide organized backup documentation for audits and assist auditors by organizing and providing requested information.

Produce Reports: create monthly reports for management and operations, ensuring accuracy and timelines, and generate ad hoc reports as requested by different stakeholders.

Provide backup to Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), and Payroll (PR): review posted data for accuracy and completeness, assist with data-entry tasks are needed during peak periods or staff shortages.

Complete other duties as assigned to support the accounting team and ensure smooth operations.

Flexibility to switch tasks frequently and adapt to changing requirements while waiting on data to complete subsequent steps.

Positive attitude and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.

Strong sense of accountability for words, actions, and results.

Skilled in 10-key by touch for accurate and efficient numerical data entry.

Skilled in advanced Microsoft Excel, including vlookup, pivot tables, and IF functions, to analyze and manipulate financial data effectively.

Ability to work flexible hours, if necessary, to meet critical deadlines.

Timeliness and Accuracy: meeting deadlines for monthly, weekly, and ad hoc reporting. Ensuring accuracy and precision in journal entries, reconciliations, and financial records. Minimizing errors and discrepancies in financial data and reports. Adhering to establishing timelines and turnaround expectations (40%).

Efficiency and Process Improvement: identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency in accounting operations. Implementing effective systems and procedures to optimize workflow. Demonstrating proactive problem-solving skills to address bottlenecks and enhance productivity. Maximizing the use of software tools and technologies to automate tasks and improve overall efficiency (25%).

Internal Customer Satisfaction: Providing exceptional support to internal stakeholders, such as management and operations teams. Responding promptly to inquiries and requests with professionalism and accuracy. Building positive relationships with colleagues and demonstrating a customer-focused approach collecting feedback from internal customers taking actions to continuously enhance service quality (20%).

Audit Compliance and Documentation: facilitating successful audits from preparing requested schedules and providing organized backup documentation. Ensuring compliance with audit requirements, regulations, and accounting standards. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date audit trails and supporting documentation. Demonstrating effective internal controls and adherence to established policies and procedures (5%).

Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner (10%).

Required Qualification

High school diploma or GED is required.

BA/BBA/BS in accounting, business, or finance is required.

Minimum of 3 years of corporate accounting experience is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Alaska Native Corporations and knowledge of Small Business Administration's 8(a) program is preferred.
