SUPERVISING CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR (SR-24) [1 vacancy]

Supervises and coordinates the inspection of several construction projects operating simultaneously, other than buildings, to assure compliance with plans, specifications and agreements of the work; resolves controversial problems between inspectors and contractors; coordinates field work with the office to prevent unnecessary delay in construction; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy:
There is o ne vacancy with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply. Regular work hours are Monday thru Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may require shift, evening, night, weekend or holiday work to accommodate unusual problems or workload and construction schedules. Position requires walking through, climbing over, and crawling under structures with occasional lifting and exertion for short periods; may be required to walk on uneven terrain; climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs; exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazards at construction sites; required to wear a hard hat and adhere to safety requirements. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Two years of experience as a construction inspector at the senior and/or working supervisory level.
Such work experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the methods and practices used in construction projects; plans and specifications relating to a wide variety of construction projects; safety practices and procedures; the principles and practices of supervisions; and the ability to plan, assign and review the work of subordinates; read and interpret plans and specifications for construction projects; analyze construction problems and make decisions; determine the quality of materials and workmanship through inspection and determine compliance with specifications; make mathematical computations; keep records; prepare reports; deal tactfully and effectively with contractors and the general public; give and follow oral and written instructions.
QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE :
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.
(Current vacancies require a valid Type 3 driver's license prior to appointment). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION :
