Director of Finance

The Jewish Educational Center (JEC) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Director of Finance. The JEC is an eighty-three year old institution located in Elizabeth, New Jersey that includes an N-12 private day school, as well as day-care center, day camp, synagogues and other community programs and services. We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance to oversee all finance, accounting and HR functions. The ideal candidate will possess integrity, discretion, management skills, strong financial acumen, exceptional organizational abilities, and appreciation for Jewish educational and communal values.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all finance, accounting, HR and reporting functions including student accounts
Train and Manage staff in AR, AP and HR functions;
Ensure compliance with all financial and labor laws and regulations;
Enhance functionality of current systems, and introduce new tools where necessary;
Collaborate with department heads to develop and maintain budgets and forecasts;
Manage institutional cashflows, budgets and reporting;
Prepare regular reporting including financial statements, budget vs. actual comparison and account analysis;
Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures;
Coordinate independent, annual certified audit and financial statements;
Maintain and manage general ledger;
Maintain accurate accounting for fund balancing, investments, and restricted funds;
Oversee AR management and provide management for collections;
Analyze annual fundraising, endowment and pledged funds;
Ensure collection of student accounts and pledged funds;
Manage government and foundation allocations, revenues, expenses and reporting;
Develop daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual systems and procedures to ensure smooth execution of all function;
Reports to the Executive Vice President.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in accounting, finance or equivalent and 7 years work experience with responsibility for financial administration; experience or background in nonprofit sector a plus; management and oversight experience; excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to relate to others. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Quickbooks, Office/Google Suite and various industry softwares; Proficiency in FACTS and DDC/Genius a plus. Independent, self-starter with the ability to plan and prioritize work schedule. Keen attention to details with an analytical ability to ensure the accuracy of financial information. Ability to effectively present financial data and information to Senior Management.
Compensation: $110,000 - $140,000, commensurate with experience
