Assistant Construction Inspector (SR-16)

Inspects various phases of construction projects, other than buildings, to assure compliance with plans, specifications and agreements of the work; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy :

There are two (2) vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Capital Projects Division. The position is responsible for the inspection of waterworks construction or installation projects to assure that the materials, workmanship, and finished product are in adherence to the established plans, specifications, acceptable waterworks construction practices and techniques and other Board of Water Supply standards. The nature of work includes assignments as an independent inspector on a construction or installation project of a smaller scale or as an inspector under a project engineer and/or inspector of higher grade on a project of larger scope.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Design & Construction, Civil Division.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater, Engineering & Construction Division.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :

Equivalent to a high school education. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :

One (1) year of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.

Examples of Qualifying Experience :

Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trades supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Substitution :

Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience:

An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from a regionally-accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.

A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.   Verification Requirement : If you have an applicable degree to substitute for the required experience, you must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit for the substitution.   Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application.   Or mail a photocopy of your documents by the closing date of this recruitment to the following address:  Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813 .  Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted.
