Summary/Objective

In partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), PERIL seeks a CARE Community Organizing Associate to support the development and administration of the Michigan Community Advisory, Resource and Education (CARE) Center. The CARE Center will offer on-site public health, community-based approaches to preventing radicalization and violence, intervening in extremist activity, and improving response to the needs of victim-survivors.

Through relationship building, community organizing, engagement and mobilization, the CARE Community Organizing Associate (CCSA) will play a pivotal role in establishing the CARE Centers. This role requires a deep understanding of community organizing principles, excellent leadership and communication skills The CCSA will also incorporate PERIL's mission, vision, and values while conducting work in the community it serves.

Onsite work will predominantly be in Detroit, MI and Lansing, MI.

The incumbent would be a nextSource employee with nextSource benefits.

Essential Functions

* Strategic Planning: Assist the Deputy Director of Regional Partnerships (DDRP) to develop an organizing plan and goals to recruit and maintain supporters, community partners, volunteers, and volunteer leaders in the community. Support the DDRP and PERIL team in the preparation of training, and strategy sessions in building CARE Centers.

* Community Engagement and Networking: Support the DDRP in building and maintaining strong relationships within the community. Identify and assess visibility opportunities in the community and represent PERIL in those events. Support the DDRP in organizing and the setup of community meetings, events, and workshops to mobilize community members and raise awareness of important issues. Conduct outreach efforts to expand the organization's reach and engagement in underrepresented communities.

* Data and Reporting: Develop and maintain a system for tracking and analyzing community organizing activities and outcomes. Produce regular reports on the progress and impact of community organizing efforts. Utilize data to make informed decisions and adjust strategies as needed.

* Administrative Duties: Support research and policy development relevant to the state agenda. Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, managing email correspondence, and maintaining organizational files.

* Other duties as assigned by Deputy Director of Regional Partnerships.

Work Environment

* Onsite work will predominantly be in Detroit, MI and Lansing, MI.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

* Full Time, 40 hours a week.

* Coordinator/Analyst B.

* Non-Exempt.

* The incumbent will attend work-related activities that occur in states where the CARE centers operate.

Salary Range

* $56,022.00 - $58,000.00/year; to commensurate with experience.

Required Education and Experience

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in community organizing.

* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing with a variety of audiences.

Preferred Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

* 2-4 years of relevant experience.

* Strong listening, persuasion, and facilitation skills.

* Excellent organization and time management.

* Ability to build and maintain relationships of trust work with diverse groups of people.

* Ability to work independently, navigate obstacles, discern priorities, meet competing deadlines, and handle multiple projects.

* Willingness to work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.

* Must have reliable transportation, ability to drive, maintain a valid driver's license, and travel as needed on a regular basis.
