As a Pediatric Physician specializing in primary medical care, your role is crucial in providing professional and comprehensive healthcare services to a diverse patient population, including refugees and individuals from low-income groups. Here are key responsibilities and considerations for your role:

Comprehensive Primary Care:

Provide comprehensive primary medical care to pediatric patients, addressing a wide range of health concerns and conditions.

Conduct thorough physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and formulate evidence-based treatment plans.

Preventive Healthcare:

Emphasize and implement preventive healthcare measures to promote the overall well-being of pediatric patients.

Administer vaccinations, conduct screenings, and provide guidance on healthy lifestyle choices.

Therapeutic Relationship:

Establish and maintain a therapeutic and trusting relationship with patients and their families, fostering effective communication and collaboration in the decision-making process.

Cultural Competence:

Demonstrate cultural competence in your interactions with patients from diverse backgrounds, recognizing and respecting their unique cultural and linguistic needs.

Tailor your approach to care, considering the cultural context and potential challenges faced by refugees and low-income populations.

Access to Healthcare:

Advocate for and facilitate access to healthcare services for patients in underserved communities, including those with limited financial resources.

Collaborate with community organizations to address barriers to healthcare access and improve the overall health of vulnerable populations.

Health Education:

Educate patients and their families about preventive measures, proper nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Provide guidance on managing chronic conditions and support families in making informed decisions about their child's health.

Collaborative Care:

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, and other specialists, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.

Participate in case conferences and share insights to provide the best possible care for patients.

Continuing Professional Development:

Stay updated on the latest advancements in pediatric medicine through continuous learning, attending conferences, and participating in relevant professional development activities.

Maintain licensure and certifications, ensuring that you are well-equipped to provide high-quality care.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, you contribute significantly to the health and well-being of pediatric patients, particularly those in vulnerable populations. Your emphasis on preventive care and health promotion plays a key role in creating a healthier community for all.

As the Physician you will:

Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions according to scope of practice to include conducting a comprehensive health assessment of the patient's medical history by conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, devising a course of treatment, discussing alternative treatment, risk and benefits of treatment, prescribing and monitoring medications, appropriate counseling of patient and reassessment of the patient at appropriate intervals.

Utilize panel based information technology tools to prioritize and direct proactive care for patients assigned to provider panels including preventive health screening and chronic disease care management.

Follow-up on utilization issues (ED, hospital admissions).

Maintain training on new or updated systems and processes to support patient health maintenance or improvement, and quality of health delivery.

Establish need for specialty and rehabilitative services and make appropriate referrals.

Assess and counsel patients regarding preventive care needs; deliver services or make appropriate referrals.

Determine need/schedule for high risk referrals. Referrals to external/non Health Department providers or resources will entail detailed EHR and chart notes to document reason and medical necessity or benefit for the referred event.

Provide clinical consultation to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, nurses and support staff. Prioritize and direct activities of the care team.

Coordinates with Behavioral Health providers to effectively integrate care for overall patient health and experience. Provides coverage for clinical colleagues in their absence.

Participate at clinic, department, county level and beyond for conferences, committees, and related events to share and gain information and input into improved and modernized public health processes and standards.

Complete patient documentation and manage electronic in-basket according to established policies and procedures. Tag records for follow-up, consultation or verification to ensure all appropriate details and events are recorded for full record and shared process with team and Behavioral Health staff.

Enter encounter and event codes for correct billing for internal and external medical

billing events to minimize error or need for follow-up, clarification or correction.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

Education/Training/Experience:

Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine AND

One (1) year residency in a primary care setting

Certification:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate and valid license to practice medicine in the State of Oregon and ability to obtain credentialing approval

CPR Certification
