Medical Director of Pulmonary Hypertension

Description The Department of Pediatrics at the Dell Medical School (DMS) at The University of Texas at Austin, along with its clinical partner, Dell Children's Medical Center (DCMC), a part of the Ascension Seton Healthcare Family, is seeking a Medical Director of Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension.Due to growth in our cardiology and NICU service lines here in Austin, TX, along with complex patient growth there is a need for a pulmonary hypertension (PAH) program.This medical director will have protected time dedicated to building the formal program for the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Center at DCMC.

The center is to attain accreditation status through the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA).

Position Highlights:

* The Director will engage in the growth of the program by collaborating with different service lines (PICU, CVICU, NICU, Pulmonary and Cardiology) and performing research.

* Allocated FTE is set at clinical .25; 0.75 of the provider's time will need to be dedicated to the PAH program per the accreditation guidelines

* Clinical Locations are located on the main campus of Dell Children's Medical Center in the Strictly Pediatrics office building, and the Far West pulmonary office.

Responsibilities:

Clinical:

Evaluate and treat patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.

Actively participates in a multidisciplinary team approach to case management.

Oversee the delivery of clinical care provided throughout the program and ensure that the quality of care delivered meets accepted standards.

Ensure that the program's faculty and staff maintain working relationships and contact with referring physicians.

Act as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.

Provide appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.

Lead and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities for the program, department, and hospital.

Recommend, participate in, and work to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness.

Participate in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Academic:

Participate in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.

Develop a strategy to retain and develop the academic skills of faculty

Create programs that train physicians to care for this growing population of patients in Central Texas.

Regularly attend annual Grand Rounds.

Participate when requested by the chief residents in departmental teaching conferences for residents and medical students.

Research:

Conduct research and quality improvement projects related to pulmonary hypertension.

Encourage cross-sectional and departmental research and training collaborations

Departmental responsibilities:

Regularly attend departmental and faculty meetings.

Participate in healthcare system, hospital, medical school, or department committees as requested or appropriate.

Advocate for staff and patients of the program.

Address complaints regarding the program with the Division Chief or Department Chair.

Other duties as may be required for the program or department and assigned by the Division Chief, Chair or Dean.

DCMC has a Level IV Epilepsy Center, Level IV NICU, Special Delivery Unit, Texas Center for Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease, and Inpatient Psychiatry Mental Health Unit. Qualifications The successful candidate will demonstrate sustained excellence or the potential for sustained excellence in research productivity, clinical care, and/or mentorship/ teaching of trainees and junior faculty.

M.D. or D.O from the Texas Medical Board.

Board certified in Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Pulmonology, or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine

Eligible for appointment to the DMS faculty as an Assistant, Associate or full Professor

Eligible for appointment to the medical staff at Dell Children's Medical Center
