We have an exciting opening for a Grants Accounting Manager to join the Office of Sponsored Programs at Scripps Research. This is a great opportunity for someone to showcase their financial acumen and analytical skills to support some of the world's most renown scientists. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial accounting background and will be a vital part in ensuring both the tactical management and stewardship of externally funded grants (federal and non-federal). The Grants Accounting Manager will foster close cross functional relationships across the organization with groups including Research Development, Office of Tech Development, Strategic Finance, Research Services, and Compliance to ensure the overall long-term success of Scripps Research’s Principal Investigators.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Financial Oversight: Manage accurate and timely financial reporting of grant activities, including providing progress updates to sponsors, stakeholders, and institutional leadership.

Compliance Oversight: Ensure compliance with federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and institutional policies throughout the post-award grant lifecycle, including but not limited to Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial, administrative, and compliance risks associated with grant activities, working closely with other stakeholders to implement/improve controls and procedures to safeguard against potential issues.

Training and Support: Provide training and support to principal investigators, research staff, and departmental administrators on grant management best practices, policies, and procedures.

Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and refine grant management processes, systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the grants management team and across the institute.

REQUIREMENTS:

3+ years of related work experience with grants and/or program management in a biomedical research institute / early-stage biotech company.

Understanding of federal grants, a strong plus.

Ability to understand complex business drivers, develop insights utilizing a data-driven approach, and communicate succinctly to a range of different audiences (principal investigators, administration colleagues, and lab coordinators).

Adept in ambiguous situations, flexible and comfortable making decisions using available data points that can be limited and/or imperfect.

Adaptable to changing priorities while effectively managing multiple commitments.

Strategic mindset coupled with the desire to constantly improve the status quo.

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in cultivating cross-collaborative working relationships across an organization.

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.

This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.
