Job Summary The Department of Occupational Therapy within the Brooks Rehabilitation College ofHealthcare Sciences invites applications for a 12-month, Clinical Assistant/Associatefaculty position to serve as Doctoral Capstone Coordinator (DCC) for the entry-levelDoctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program at Jacksonville University.

Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Duties/Responsibilities Identify and secure sites for Doctoral Capstone education.

Review the quality and appropriateness of Doctoral Capstone sites in collaborationwith other academic faculty.

The Doctoral Residency Coordinator will have sufficient release time from academic

teaching responsibilities in order to ensure that fieldwork and residency programneeds are met. ACOTE A.2.5

Develop Doctoral Capstone objectives in collaboration with students and sites.

Specifically responsible for the program's compliance with the capstone requirementsof Standards Section Acorn D.1.0

Ensure that the doctoral capstone reflects the sequence and scope of content in thecurriculum design so the doctoral capstone can allow for development of in-depth knowledgein the designated area of interest. Acorn 0.1.1

Ensure that the doctoral capstone is designed through collaboration of the facultyand student, and provided in setting(s) consistent with the program's curriculum design,including individualized specific objectives and plans for supervision. ACOTE 0.1.

Ensure that preparation for the capstone project includes a literature review, needsassessment, goals/objectives, and an evaluation plan. ACOTE 0.1.3

Ensure that there is a valid memorandum of understanding for the doctoral capstoneexperience, that, at a minimum, includes individualized specific objectives, plansfor supervision or mentoring, and responsibilities of all parties. ACOTE D.1.4

Require that the length of the doctoral capstone experience be a minimum of 14 weeks(560 hours). ACOTE D.1.5

Document and verify that the student is mentored by an individual with expertise consistentwith the student's area of focus prior to the onset of the doctoral capstone experience.ACOTED. 1.6

Document a formal evaluation mechanism for objective assessment of the student's performanceduring and at the completion of the doctoral capstone experience. ACOTE 0.1.1

Ensure completion and dissemination of an individual doctoral capstone project thatrelates to the doctoral capstone experience and demonstrates synthesis of in-depthknowledge in the focused area of study. ACOTE O.1.s

Initiate and maintain communication and correspondence between the academic and

doctoral capstone sites, students, and report to faculty.

Communicate with doctoral capstone mentors regarding the doctoral curriculum model,course content, and doctoral capstone expectations.

Oversee the administrative aspects of the doctoral capstone program including agreementswith experience sites.

Assign students to residency settings.

Orient students to responsibilities and protocols for residency and maintains theDoctoral Capstone Manual.

Monitor the facilitation of clinical reasoning and reflective practice in doctoralcapstone

settings and provide feedback to the department.

Counsel and arbitrate with students and doctoral capstone mentors on matters of concern.

Collaborate with the doctoral capstone mentors in assigning the final appraisal (grading)of the student.

Participate in appropriate doctoral capstone educational support groups (e.g. localexperiential consortiums, etc.)

Supervise any support personnel carrying out administrative aspects of doctoral capstoneprograms.

Facilitate the development of doctoral capstone programs and related student supervisionskills.

Maintain an assigned teaching workload within the Department of Occupational Therapycurriculum and develop necessary syllabi, assessments and course maintenance material.

Actively participate in scheduled Department of Occupational Therapy meetings andprovide constructive suggestions/feedback for program improvement, program evaluationand strategic planning.

Perform other duties as deemed necessary and mutually agreed-upon by the DoctoralResidency Coordinator and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy.

Assist with ACOTE Self-Study and other Accreditation activities where appropriate.

Prepare for and engage in professional development activities according to establishedyearly goals as part of the Department Professional Development Plan (Form F) mutuallyagreed-upon by the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator and Chair of the Department of OccupationalTherapy.

Adhere to Departmental, School, College and University Policies and Procedures (e.g.HIPPA, FERPA, etc.).

Functions according to AOTA Code of Ethics (AOTA, 2015), Standards of Continuing Competence(AOTA, 2015), and Standards of Practice (AOTA, 2015) of the profession.

Teaching and Instruction: Time Allocated 50-75%

Required Skills/Abilities Academic and clinical expertise in occupational therapy.

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience The Doctoral Capstone Coordinator shall be a Licensed Occupational Therapist in theState of Florida, initially certified by NBCOT, or its predecessor, hold a doctoraldegree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regionalaccrediting body.

Have at least three years of practice experience with experience supervising and advisingfieldwork students, and have documented or developing expertise in area of teachingresponsibility and knowledge of content methods. ACOTE A. 2.5., A.2.6. & A.2.7.

A minimum of 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teachingresponsibilities.

Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.

Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.

Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
