Job Summary

This Research Finance Analyst will uses skills as an intermediate research administrator to independently manage the financial and post-award components of multiple faculty's research portfolios. Maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Follows institutional procedures and practices when analyzing or reviewing financial information or reports. Submits invoices and financial reports in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with sponsor requirements. Prepares budget status reports for faculty that show accurate financial information and forecasts based on reasonable assumptions to aid the faculty in making spending decisions that are compliant with sponsor and UCSF policies. Provide limited budgetary input on proposals and collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) and Contracts and Grants Accounting (CGA) in submitting progress and financial reports. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Division of Hematology/Oncology is one of the largest Divisions in the Department of Medicine. Currently, the Division has 72 full-time faculty, 26 ACGME fellows, 17 post-doctoral fellows, 32 non faculty appointments, and greater than 50 administrative and research staff. The Division's research, clinical and teaching functions are primarily split between the Parnassus, Mission Bay and Mount Zion campuses, although the faculty, fellows, and staff have appointments and clinical, research, and educational activities at SFGH, and VAMC.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or at least 2 years of hands-on experience in research administration or equivalent combination of experience and training .

Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.

Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.

Ability to maintain independent judgment, strong organization,and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.

Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.

Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.

Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.

Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences. Ability to effectively present moderately complex financial information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.

Efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment; ability to adapt to changing priorities; ability to follow through on tasks or projects to completion with limited guidance and supervision.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills proven through interactions with individuals at all levels within and outside the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.

Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.

Previous working experience in an academic environment.
