Overview:

This position will be a leader in the development and continuous improvement of Summit Materials Company’s safety culture and values. You will manage and enforce corporate safety and health policies and procedures; establish and maintain compliance with all safety, health and environmental laws and regulations issued by federal, state, and local agencies. Set and review the safety and health procedures to minimize the risk of injuries and incidents.  Manages the company's Safety Management System, which includes injury, occupational illness, safety observation, incident collection system and safety leading indicators (5S, THINK, SSSSDS, etc.); receives incident reports from locations; investigates all occupational illnesses, injuries, and incidents to identify root cause and implement appropriate corrective actions. This position reports directly to the regional Safety Director.

Coaching leadership on how to create a Safety Culture at their locations; Be visible in the Plant, on jobsites, coaching, teaching, and mentoring.

Utilizes safety leading indicators to achieve desired results (zero harm).

Success achieved by active site visits; analyzing safety risks; championing a behavior-based safety system.

Lead and help others to lead incident investigations; develop and help others to develop corrective actions monitor the completion of corrective actions.

Develop, review, and enforce corporate and site-specific safety policies and procedures.

Develops compliance policy and training and provides policy oversight and communication to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and internal company policy including OSHA, MSHA, DOT, FMCSA, etc. as applicable.

Develops and leads implementation of a behavior-based Safety Culture.

Develops, manages, and administers the Occupational Safety and Health Program.

Assist in the development and implementation of programs to achieve, maintain, and exceed compliance with relevant regulatory laws and company standards.

Prepares and schedules training to cover safety training including emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics to employees, contractors, and visitors.

Works closely with management team in formulating safety and health rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Conducts safety audits and inspections of all site and office locations.

Proactively identifies unsafe conditions and unsafe acts/behaviors and develops appropriate responses to them.

Directs and participates in the Safety Committee programs and attends local safety meetings as needed.

Completes employee performance reviews, required governmental reports (e.g. OSHA, DOT, and other Consumer Regulated bodies) and other paperwork according to established policy.

Develops, implements, and administers written policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with the provisions of applicable federal state occupational safety laws and regulations (e.g. MSHA, OSHA).

Maintains confidentiality of financial information, insurance and litigation documents, employee information (e.g. wage information, discipline, health information) and other sensitive and confidential information.

Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local Laws.

Manages the worker's compensation incumbent that oversees the program to include claim management, modified duty program and taking proactive measures to eliminate potential injuries.

Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or a related field, or  equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Minimum of 3 -5 years’ experience in occupational safety/risk capacity required; CSP, ASP preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years of previous supervisory experience preferred.

Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Ready-Mix Construction

Extensive knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, FMCSA and DOT regulations and construction safety.

Proficient in technology and equipment used in safety and health such as industrial hygiene testing.

Individuals must possess a questioning mind and the ability to think independently. Ability to challenge situations in a constructive manner and present reasonable alternatives. Must possess superior problem-solving skills; ability to identify and investigate potential problems with respect to all safety issues.

Individual must possess strong computer skills and be proficient with Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Strong interpersonal skills including conflict management, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.

Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.

High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.

Experience in strategic planning and execution.

Experience in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.

Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.

Knowledge of public relations and principles and practices.

Knowledge of communication and public relation techniques.

Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

Ability to identify and secure funding/revenue sources.

Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels.

Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel.

Experience in a construction environment preferred.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Able to safely drive a vehicle.

Regular required attendance and reporting ready to begin work at the designated start time.
