Location: Remote with occasional onsite meetings in Los Angeles County, CA.
Preferred location: Los Angeles, CA or in South California area
Job Summary:
We are looking for a seasoned Legal Director, reporting to the Chief Operation Officer, to join and collaborate with functional teams of Angitia. This position requires an attorney with strong in-house counsel experience, negotiating high-value agreements for a growing business in the biotech/pharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing and relevant business fields. This attorney will have a focus on business-minded advice regarding company legal matters and counsel for business leadership on complex legal terms, vendor contracts, transactional matters, providing subject matter expertise on issues arising research and clinical studies, coordinate responses to external, participate in due diligence for licensing, financing, coordinate legal support across all internal functional areas, and develop and implement process improvements for efficient delivery of legal services complying with industry good practice (GCP/GMP etc.) laws and regulations. The ability to calmly handle and prioritize competing, high-pressure demands is required.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following :
Review, draft, and negotiate business contracts, which includes having a good understanding and judgment on the company's key legal risks and concerns, as well as working with different functional teams to get their inputs;
Provide high quality and timely legal advice and guidance, and identify/resolve critical legal and business issues arising from all areas of the organization;
Work with cross-boarder legal matters and have the ability to manage and assess local and cross-boarder legal risks and concerns related to the company's business;
Maintain and develop corporate compliance policies across the organization, manage updates as the laws and regulations change, ensure compliance with the company's legal obligations and internal policies;
Conduct legal research in various areas to keep company policies and regulations compliant to current regulations and laws;
Participate in the fund-raising activities of the company and assist related legal matters;
Support other functional teams to establish, review, and manage various initiatives that need legal support and provide necessary trainings;
Advise and counsel on patent/intellectual property issues surrounding the company's business and general business development;
Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Education & Qualifications
J.D. degree from an accredited law school
State Bar license certification
6+ years of experience working in-house or at a law firm (preferably a combination of both, with a minimum of 3+ years working in-house)
Previous experience working in biomedical and clinical development area preferred
Excellent business contract drafting and negotiation skills
Demonstrated leadership qualities including experience coordinating with cross-functional teams, as well as providing sound business and legal judgment, and strategic and analytical thinking
Attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to identify and manage any business-related legal issues and risks
Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex legal issues with the business partners
Able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, adaptable to start-up company's culture, work with deadlines, and show accountability
Able to work independently but also be a great team player
Salary range:$180k to $220k
