Job Description Job Description Summary

With some direction and the support of an engineering staff, the Engineering Technician will install and enter configuration information into routers, switches and other networking gear at data centers and other locations. They will be responsible for performing cabling and equipment installation. Also, they will independently test all equipment for correct operation, identify issues and work with Engineering staff to resolve. Process adherence, documentation and data entry are required to document work performed, with a strict attention to detail. This individual must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as part of a team and as an individual contributor. They must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Layer 1 and network equipment maintenance This work is on site in any of our Momentum PoPs

Travel is required mostly in the continental US Work may be during normal business hours, or outside of them, sometimes with little notice in case of major issues.

Work with Engineers to implement infrastructure at PoPs - nationwide.

Utilize templates / process docs.

Equipment and Layer 1 issue resolution.

Equipment installation, replacement, software installation and configuration data entry with instructions from Engineers.

Contribute to Templates and process documentation creation within scope.

Utilize existing systems to track changes to assets when implementing / MACD.

Occasionally communicate face to face with customers during implementation or problem resolution.

Other Duties as assigned throughout the Engineering organization.

Skills, Competencies or Specific Experience Preferred Experience working in highly secure, production level data centers.

Hands-on experience with networking and computer equipment.

Comprehension of OSI model, solid knowledge of layer 1, and a basic understanding of layers 2 and 3.

Familiarity with different network Media types (SMF / MMF / Cat6, etc.) and connection styles.

Familiarity with network hardware architecture and terms (Router, switch, SFP, PDU, WDM / MUX, etc.)

General understanding of the requirements of production quality Customer implementation and support.

Demonstrated oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. The ability to document processes and tasks using words and pictures is critical.

Experience with PC tools: Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

Must be able to manage time among multiple tasks.

Must be able to solve minor unexpected problems independently, to complete tasks.

A strict attention to detail regarding functionality, documentation, labelling, maintainability, neatness and appearance and communication.

Must have the ability to “look ahead” to prepare for additional tasks, or the tasks ofothers.

Incumbents will only be fully successful if they are driven to “create solutions”, and not simply “finish tasks”.

Demonstrated understanding of networks and communication systems, and related manufacturers.

Familiarity with ERP tools.

Familiarity with SalesForce is a plus.

Cisco Certified Network Technician (CCNT) or similar certification is a plus.

Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, is a plus.

Education and Work Experience

1+ years’ experience in a technical role

1+ years’ experience with desktop computers and standard office SW.

Any experience with Linux, engineering asset management tools or network monitoring systems is a plus.

Job Conditions Required to sit; use a computer, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; utilize tools.

Regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to speak and type clearly in English.

Normal hours are from 9-5, local time. However, there will be needs for work outside of these hours, sometimes on an emergency basis, to support network maintenance.

24x7 on call hours will be a part of this position.

This position is a hybrid / remote position. The normal work location will be a local Momentum office or Data Center, with opportunities to work from home when not traveling or needed in a local data center. A stable internet connection is required for remote work.

The position will require travel, including overnight, for installation, maintenance, repair, auditing, or meeting with other staff. 2-3 trips expected per month.
