With these and other investments comes the need to add highly skilled and experienced employees to all our business units and teams throughout the US.
We are actively searching for an experienced Construction Safety Manager to plan and supervise a wide range of construction projects from start to finish for new construction project(s) of LG Chem in Clarksville, TN. The Manager will organize and oversee construction safety procedures and ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Major tasks include developing safety policies and procedures for the construction site(s), and ensure they are followed. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the Design-Builder, Contractors, Vendors, Suppliers, Consultants and any other stakeholder on the construction site are following safety policies and procedures to create a safe environment for construction workers. As the Construction Safety Manager, additionally responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
To qualify for the Construction Safety Manager position, candidates must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and able to lead a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organizational skills for Safety First. This position is based in Clarksville, TN and is not a remote role.
Essential Functions (include but are not limited to) :
Be a local representative of LG Chem for the construction safety matters.
Collaborate with authorities including federal, state, county, and city public infrastructure suppliers for water, electrical power, gas and etc. Additional authorities may include engineers, architects, contractors, Korean and/or international vendors for product machines to ensure the project safety.
Review physical, biological and chemical workplace hazards with regard to Environmental Management Plans.
Create, develop and implement Construction Safety Management Programs.
Day to day activities may include, but are not limited to,
- Conduct safety and environmental audits
- Investigate health-and-safety-related complaints, spills of hazardous chemicals, outbreaks of
diseases or poisonings, and workplace accidents
- Inspect workplaces to ensure that equipment, materials and production processes do not present a
safety or health hazard to employees or the general public
- Develop, implement and evaluate health and safety programs and strategies
- Provide consultation and deliver training programs to construction industry employers and
employees on issues of workplace safety and (depending on the project) environmental protection
Ensure that the Design-Builder, Contractors, Vendors, Suppliers, Consultants and any other stakeholders on site are trained and following LG Chem policies.
Write / revise written safety and environmental programs and procedures as needed.
Coordinate Safety Fair.
Conduct / oversee weekly tests of safety showers and eye wash stations.
Schedule Training and arrange for evaluations.
Coordinate and conduct Safety Team meetings and activities.
Coordinate safety / environmental training for team members including new-hire and refresher meetings.
Perform environmental / safety inspections and checks for hazardous waste, spill kits, and industrial waste.
May be responsible for handling hazardous waste or responding to emergencies.
Perform accident, near miss, and first aid investigations to determine corrective actions
Responsible for updating the approved contractor database.
Ensures Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available for hazardous chemicals on the intranet and update as needed
Coordinating emergency response drills
Oversees the Online EHS reporting system
Other duties / responsibilities as assigned
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Occupational Health and Safety.
Requirements:
General : This position requires a high level of construction safety knowledge of USA regulations and have received the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-Authorized trainer Certification. This role requires a minimum of 10+years of experience in a safety manager role in the construction industry. Candidates with start-up experience highly preferred.
Technology skills: Must have advanced computer skills and experience to operate machinery and access software programs.
Communication skills: Construction safety officers may have to communicate effectively to present safety information to construction site workers and managers, so it's helpful to possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail: Construction safety officers adhere to and implement safety regulations and procedures on the construction site and must be detail oriented.
Physical strength: Because the job of a construction safety officer can be strenuous and physical, it may be useful for you to be physically fit.
Problem-solving skills: Construction safety officers work to identify problems and provide solutions in order to keep all employees safe, so candidates must have strong problem-solving skills.
