Job Summary
Surgical Technologists are allied health professionals who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients in a variety of settings. The surgical technologist works under medical supervision to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. This individual works under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions appropriately, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Surgical Technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. This position is responsible for assisting with patient care in close working relationships with the surgical team. The role primarily provides technical support for patients undergoing urgent and emergent surgical interventions in various locations to include Pavilion Operating Room, UT Surgery Suite, Same Day Surgery Center, and Children’s Surgery Center.

Minimum Qualifications
Previous surgical tech work experience scrubbing complex surgical procedures in a similar setting or main operating room
Certificate or degree from an accredited surgical technology program

The Division of Perioperative Services delivers patient care through provision and management of capital, supplies, instrumentation, and technological support as well as human resources in collaboration with medical and para-medical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent surgical intervention.

Ability to cope during stressful situations and working in a highly paced environment including dealing with surgical emergencies.
Ability to work/stand for long periods of time in a close environment with others.
Physical strength to assist in moving and/or lifting patients and surgery equipment.
Physically able to lift at least 25 pounds.
Must see well enough to read charts & instructions.
Special Requirements
This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
