The health equity team supports teams throughout the enterprise to eliminate health inequities by identifying and remediating policies, systems and environmental conditions that support unequal and unfair outcomes for members, providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and addressing the social determinants of health that undermine optimal health outcomes.
College Student Job Description :
The Health Equity college student roles primary responsibility is to assess and describe disparities in health outcomes, and potential needs to facilitate targeted intervention and feasible goal setting. The successful college applicant will have a track record of data management, developing analytical reports, synthesizing, and presenting complex information to stakeholders, and providing evidence-based recommendations.
•Analyze community health needs assessments and other community level data to identify community level social needs for selected communities in our service areas •Assess similarities and differences between the community's social risks and the social needs of Plan members. •Apply an understanding of intersectionality and population health to define and describe communities served and to identify and assess the unique needs of different communities and relevant member populations. •In addition, this role will support member engagement events, such as the annual Health Equity Summit.
Required Skills :
•Familiarity with local and national data sources applicable to population and public health •Knowledge of the geographic and demographic characteristics of the region and awareness of how residential segregation and historical factors impact hyperlocal social barriers •Strong understanding of the root causes of inequities and the social determinants of health, local communities' resources and needs, barriers to health care access for a culturally diverse, multi-lingual population. •A thorough understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation for equity, cultural humility, and inclusiveness.
